Can't get to Prudhoe Bay?

"UPDATE, 2002: Alyeska is considering shutting down access to Prudhoe Bay and the ocean - they say for security concerns since Sept. 11. If they succeed, tours will have to stop here."

From this website:

http://fairbanks-alaska.com/dalton-highway.htm

My friend found this and sent it to me. Seems to me that there are a lot of people on this board that have made it to Prudhoe Bay within the last year, so probably just a 'old' update? Anyone wanna verify this?

GUSGUS had an adventure to Prudhoe Bay last year, see his ride report at Bunburner 1500 to Deadhorse, Alaska.

Technically you can't ride to the ocean.

You can ride into the oil field town of Prudhoe Bay but the road to the ocean is beyond the BP security gates.
There's a bus that takes you through the plant to the ocean, not sure how much it is or how many times a day it runs.

That's why God made Inuvik. From what I've read they're tourism-friendly, plenty of stuff to do off-the-bike. I hope to make it there next year.

The bus is $38 per person and takes you to the beach for a cold swim.

Inuvik is a long ways from the ocean. However, you can fly (not drive, leastways, not in the summer) to Tuktoyaktuk and dip your toes if you like.

While there was more security present when I did the Haul Road in 2002 than when I did an IBA UCC last summer, I don't think they will be closing it to the public unless something "new" happens.

Especially not when I see This: http://www.coolworks.com/coldfootcamp/jobs.htm
