Howdy folks
what's the quality of the gas in eastern Turkey? A guy just informed me that he tanked leaded fuel although it was marked as unleaded in the region around Mt. Ararat... According to his information, the gasoline is smuggled from Iran and noone cares if it's with or withoud lead. Any tips from our turkish friends? How do you cope with that with your fine motorcycles? |

Hi,
There are many noname gas stations in the mentioned region. From time to time, but not often, it is quite possible to get smuggled gasoline there. An easy remedy is to fill up at the gas stations of well-known companys (as I do). |

When i am on the trip i always buy from inside of the city or town. The gas stations in the city or town do not sell bad gas. Because local people also buying from them. If they sell bad gas they will loose customers.
That why try to use the ones in the city or town. If you don't have anychange take a look at the station. How does it look. If they look professional ( Wearing same clothes and stuff ) go a head. These are the good ones Turk Petrol BP Shell Petrol ofisi Total |

What would be the distance between quality petrol stations in east Turkey? I guess i can't make more than 300km with one tank.

got gas ?
AGIRABI is right, get your gas in towns and stick to the stations he has named, also when between towns.
I dont see you running out of gas in 300 km unless you take an unpaved road or really lonely road that leads only to small villages. If space permits, strap on an additional 5-6 liters for peace of mind overkill, which in my opinion is a good thing when you have so much else to concentrate on. If you should run out of gas (again unlikely) know that someone will stop and give you some. (That however, may be of dubious quality so if you ever have to hail down a car for gas in the east, make sure it is a newer model since the owner cares as much about the quality of his gas as you do). Where exactly are you heading, if I may ask? |
