Lighter Rear Spring

Hi All,
Has anyone fitted the lighter 130 Nm rear spring to their 950 Adv?

I'm looking at changing my standard 150 Nm spring to soften the back a little and hopefully lower the bike so I can get both feet down.
Any other advice on lowering a 950 Adv will also be greatly appreciated.

Factory Connection used a lighter Eibach spring when they rebuilt and lowered my rear WP shock. 110% better than stock. The preload adjustment knob is now usable. Factory Connection also just did the forks and the bike is now much better than it was before. Highly recommended modifications.

Dropped mine (04 S model) from the 14.0Kg/mm stock to about 11kg/mm Eibach, and everything is better. Handling, plushness, the preload is useful now.

I'm 150 lbs plus gear.

Wayne what was the part number of the spring? Can you now get the right sag?

I'm ready to order one from ktmtwins and give it a shot. Im trying to gain the same thing you are, lower sag for better reach and not so stiff a rear end. as soon as they get back to me on if it will fit on the 04 950 standard I'll pull the trigger.

Wayne doesn't set sag, just like he doesn't change tires or do maintenance. He thinks it's a sign of weakness.

I went ahead and ordered the lighter spring from ktmtwins, very efficient over the internet with a few emails exchanged. It should arrive in Singapore next week sometime , I'll let you know what difference it makes as soon as I get it fitted.

Guys - I would not recommend going to a lighter spring to reduce the height. This will greatly increase "sag" and will affect the handling. (Think of a car with worn rear shocks that is riding ride soft and low.)

Shortening the travel of both the front and rear suspension is the safer and better solution. This is done by limiting the travel of the suspension. You want your bike to be balanced with the spring rates set for your body weight. By shortening the travel (requires modification of the shock), you achieve lower height, with less suspension travel... but with good, useable and balanced suspension.

I recommend that you speak to a suspension specialist before spending money on softer spring.

The problem is when your only 150 to 160lbs with no preload on the stock spring the sag is just over 2". The lighter spring is for us skinny guys who want to be able to use the preload ajuster as it was intended. All my dirt bikes with me on them have around 3 to 4" of race sag. I would like to have the sag set to arund 3" using some of the adjuster.

I agree, at only 5'4'' and 140 lbs.....the 950 is a handfull
The lighter spring has to help.

And even if it doesn't......it's still the best bike out there

I weigh 140 and ride stock spring/preload. If I back off the preeload the bike won't handle very well even on the street. You probably need to do both ends at the same time.

I agree I have never done just the rear of any of my bikes, they have to be balanced front to rear. The stock front end on my 950 has been soft from day one. When I get the softer spring I will have both front and rear done.

Dude,, just got my spring and it's correct for the new lowered machines 05.5/06 but the older 03/04/05 need a 255 not a 225. So obviously the spring that comes from ktmtwins won't fit any of the older shocks. the stock on my 04 standard is 255/140.. now the search for a 255/120 or so. maybe mr wayne weber can tell us what part number he ordered from eibach.

155lbs with zero rear preload and the .48 fork springs cranked down.
