Bike starts, but only runs a few minutes

Hey guys,
I'm looking for some help. I have had battery/starting issues since last year. So I was considering buying a new battery, but never did. Last year, if my bike didn't start after two tries, the battery would be dead. Also, if I ever happened to stall it while riding, sometimes when I hit the starter it wouldn't crank right away.

Anyway, last week I was riding for about five miles and it stopped running. I got it home by way of pick-up truck. I jump started it at home without any trouble but after I shut it off the battery was dead and would not start it. I bought a new battery and charged it. I started it up without any problem. I warmed it up for about three minutes. I drove it 300 feet and it slowly died and did not have enough juice to start it. What do I look at next? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Probably going to need to know more information....
Type of bike
Year model
Any additions or "improvements"
Any recent maintenance
Etc.

Dying after 300 feet of riding sounds like a fuel problem, however.

Sorry for not saying earlier- 2006 KTM 625 SMC

I'm going to be looking at the electrical system. It will be a few days before I get a chance to get at it.

Thanks for your replies.

What kind of battery? It's rare but you could have gotten a bad battery. Have you tested it?
