Route from NYC to Mohegan Sun / Mystic CT

Anyone in CT have an interesting route (Meaning = trying not to be on 91/95 too much) from NYC to Casinos? It's a same day back and forth so I don't want to go via Chicago to do the back roads but I also dislike 95North - boring highway and dangerous trucks!!!

A few of us might be shooting for next monday if interested. But much appreciate any route info.

Thanks!!

Enjoy the trip. I know what you mean about 95, no fun at all. If you are doing the trip in one day, you'll need to make some time when you can. I'd suggest the Merritt Parkway as an alternate to 95. It is still a highway, but at least it is more scenic and has a few curves (and no trucks). Once you get to Exit 63, go east on CT 22 then north on CT 17 then south on CT 79 then east on CT 148. These are roads that have some decent curves, light traffic, and will let you see some scenery as you pass through small towns along the way. I'd suggest you take the ferry across the CT River at Hadlyme (at the end of CT 148), then CT 82 will take you to the casino's (follow the signs when you get near Norwich). It should be a nice ride, wish I were free to go!

Rt through CT

If you are coming from the city, you're limited to Rt 1, Rt 95 or Rt 15 (Merritt). None of these options are fun during rush hour(s), but I agree with George, the Merritt is the lesser of the evils.

The route spelled out by George is a good one. Just be careful if riding dusk/dawn - lots of deer strikes out in this area.

The ferry is $3.00 to cross the river. Here is a link for schedule:

If riding during other hours, you can head north and cross the bridge in Haddam (Rt 82), or head south and cross via Rt 95.
