Crosswinds

Not sure if this is 205, but I did a couple of quick searches and didn't find anything.

Enjoy. Pretty frickin' cool, IYAM. Can't really translate the portuguese titles. It seems (to me, at least) to be Boeing tests... Does anyone know any more details?

Damn. I wonder what you're thinking while looking out the window
towards the runway (as a passenger)?

Going into PSP with a 29 kt cross-wind, I asked the co-pilot if it was wing down, top rudder, or the other way around? I don't think he breathed again until we got to the gate.

we've been pretty sideways in the corporate jet. looking down the runway, over the wing, out the window.

fairly scary.

and we get the occassional deer on the runway, which involves circling the airport until someone runs out and scares it away.

That's how an Ercoupe lands in a cross wind. Mine had no rudder pedals, just crab it in and plant it. No problem, but it sure looks strange.

Reminds me of this joke -

Irish pilot says to Irish co-pilot after a very tense landing: Jaysus Paddy, that were the shortist feckin' runway I ever landed on!"

Irish co-pilot looks out the cockpit window and remarks: "But so feckin' wide!"

Tail Wheel

You sure can't land a tail wheel like that.

I'm not a pilot, so I gotta ask, why not land on the runway that is more parallel with the wind direction?

I think you are looking at maximum demonstrated cross-wind landings for the various models of Boeings over the years. Part of the certification process.

Looks like they are landing at Moses Lake, WA (Moses Hole).

Pretty cool.

I get cross wind landings in Reno all the time.

Boeing tests crosswind landings for the 777 and the 747 at a very windy location (can't remember the exact location right now, search Airliners.net) in Brazil.

Exactly.
Some airports have only one/two runways so crosswinds cannot be avoided.

I always used to purposely ask for the crosswind runway, so I could practice my one wheel touch and go's, in the Citabria. Lots of fun!
