Yes, it's a possibility, but just like appendicitis it's no use worrying about it until it becomes a problem.

This is the most inspiring thread I have read, infact, its has got me going more the any other adventure/travel story I have read. I have been glued to the computer screen and have read the whole thing in a 1er!!! I have been wanting a "proper" bike adventure for some time now, and I dont me "lets bike from Scotland to Spain" or whatever (however that would still be VERY nice! . But something kickass, out there, ways away from anyone and anything, a proper adventure. I still need to meet someone who thinks the same thoug, and would be willing to partake in such an adventure (and I still need the cash to fund it!). But I guess I am still only 26, my time WILL come, and when it happens you can expect the most indepth thread from me !!! Nice one matey, thanks alot!

I can't believe it took me this long to see this thread.

Phenomenal ride report.

I lived in Johannesburg in 1984-85 and my major regret is that I didn't explore southern Africa by motorcycle.

+1. This is a stellar thread and one I have been using as a reference point. I will be in Windhoek July 3 for a 10 day ride in NW Nam. So far I am solo, which is not the ideal situation, but so far, that is the reality. Anyone needing to get out of the house?

I love the travel guides that suggest: "In the event you accidently come across an elephant in the bush, avoid eye contact and do not run, but slowly back away while maintaining a confident stance."

How do you miss the great ones?

Wow metaljockey,

What an incredable post.

I find this site so amazing. Right in front of you for a year and then "man how did i miss this one". There can be no better site. There can be no better posters.

Really great job. Indeed metaljockey, a memory for the golden years. Thanks for posting.

Jed.

great report...what an adventure. I must say though I feel very bad for that poor R1200gs for being dropped repeatedly.... Makes me feel like a big heavy GS may not be the right bike for such an endurance challenge.
