My custom Jesse Mounting system

I designed and fabricated my own Jesse mounts, which, I think look nicer and solve some other problems as well.

I just cut part of the main bar from the Jesse mounts, since I was in a hurry at the time (last year right before vacation!)...but the rest of the contruction is 4130 Crmo tubing.

There is some rust since I just spray painted them. I'll powder coat them when time allows. Note that I replaced the passenger grab rail. The new one is 7/8" diameter, and spaced out further so my wifes fingers don't get pinched, which is a big problem on the stock grab rail.

One more pic, showing the grab rail better:

The jesses rub the side panels a little, but I don't mind. It's about 34" wide with 8" bags, the same as the bars more or less.

The rear curve is a great push bar, and pick up point for when you fall...and you will fall, you will fall!!!!

That is all....

Good job!

Do the bags have a lower support point?

That was an issue on my airhead GS - it bent inwards on about the second or third day of my Baja trip - you can see the shiny spot on the rear drive where it started to rub.

Coco fabricated a reinforcing plate for me and hammered the mount straight on an anvil.

yes, the lower mount is a plastic piece, bolted to the bags, that clips to the long diagonal tube, behind the passenger foot peg.

jesses and baja don't mix, the downward force from hitting the woops was enough to bend mine down, the left was so bad the swingarm was hitting the bottom of the bag..

i'll have soft luggage next time i go to MX.

my jesses will be relegated to commmuting.

Alternative to powder coating

There is some rust since I just spray painted them. I'll powder coat them when time allows.

Wayne,

May I suggest you consider the following. Have the mounts Zinc coated, then finished with Krylon. The zinc is sacrificial. They will never rust. If they get scraped up, just touch them up with more krylon. Powder coating will scratch off, then rust forms underneath and you'll get a mess again!

I learned this trick building off-road bits for Land Rovers....
