Tire sizes are different, of course.
You can always throw down something underneath the center stand to raise things.

Your bike looks exceptionally clean.

Don't suppose you could post a picture with the bike off the centerstand to see how it looks while riding. That would certainly be appreciated.

Also, forgot to ask, is that the HT skid plate you're running?

My bike flopped over during a CC trip, while it was parked, and the front brake lever is still today a 'shorty'.

Any complaints with that tank?
Well I will send good vibes towards BMW.

The PO had backed all the compression off the rear shock, to the point that there was a 1 inch plus gap between the spring and the adjusters when it was on a stand. The sag is still off, but it will do until I get new springs.

Glad to hear about the sidestand issue. It does seem to lean over a great deal.

I like the fit and finish of the tank. I have an IMS on my XR650R and this tank appears to be slightly thicker. The exterior face is smoother for sure. Only time will tell, but it has already absorbed one fall.

The carb inlet is an issue, but I will look at that closer when I swap springs.

I will say that the Corbin doesn't get me real jazzed, but that may be because my butt is dead from 20K plus on bicycles over the last ten years and the pressure points are entirely different with the Corbin seat. Much more pressure on the cheeks now. I have a Alaskan Leather Sheep Skin on my XR from the Mexico ride in January, that I have yet to move over to the DR.

..... the safari tank is compatable with the stock seat. So it is my understanding that the stock corbin will fit the safari. Check with the safari boys.

Corbin sells two seats,It is my understanding that the IMS style seat will fit the stock tank too, however just give Corbin a call and all will be explained. Bareman

speedo replacement

hey folks,

thanks for all the recent posts. glad to hear most everyone's beginning to get some pleasant riding weather.

i'm considering adding a trailtech vapor speedo/tach/computer as the next farkle. can anyone advise on the following questions:
  • if it's possible to completely replace the stock speedo or if it has to be mounted in addition? all of the photos i've seen have been non-plated models (xr650r, etc)
  • if the vapor can tap into the stock rpm/speed wiring?
  • issues with removing the stock setup?
  • is it a worthwhile piece of equipment?
Thanks much,

-mean

they are smoooooooth.

noticeably less vibration. swerving between dashed lines, they just slide back and forth. don't even move my body. she just glides.

have'nt had a chance to test any good corners yet, tho.

Looking at SW Moto's site, the closest size to fit a DR for a rear Anakee is a 130/80HR - 17, which is a radial tire. The front 90/90HB-21 is a bias tire. Is this an issue running a radial on the rear and a bias on the front on a DR?

Anyone in Northern California want to help out the DR650SE community?

I wanted to buy a DR650SE Shift Kit from Factory Pro, but they don't have access to a DR650 for development. Is there a good (DR650) samaritan near San Rafael, CA that could work with Factory Pro to get a shift kit developed? I and many others would be greatly indebted.
note from the Factory Pro website
Make shifting MUCH quicker and virtually eliminate missed shifts
(We could use a bike to use for development! Free for you! Call Marc)

I've been running a radial Metzeler Tourance in 130/80-17 on the rear and a non radial Tourance on the front for the last 9200 miles and they've been great!

That's good news. Do you corner aggressively with them? I am recovering from achilles tendon surgery and can not ride off road for at least 6 months, so I am planning on replacing my K270s when they wear out with more street-oriented rubber. I was thinking about a set of Pirelli Scorpion ATs since the KTM guys I have ridden with like those tires a lot on pavement. I found the stock Trailwings to be pretty good on asphalt but I'd like to see what else is out there that might be better. I like to corner fairly aggressively in the twisties. Any other suggestions?
