factory canisterectomy?????

i own a 2004 silver 950 today i was planning to do the big job but something's wrong.i took off the front upper fairing, obviously the one with the canister to find out that the son of a gun is not like my friend black 04.
mine has the two tanks upper vent who's merging onto one to the canister and the canister is not connected to fuckall?????? so i looked inside the parts and chassis manual to have a look.and it seems that the second hose from the canister goes to the front of the airbox so i'd try to find that hose and it is attached to the airbox but it goes straight down the ground and the damn thing is not even plugged with a screw or anything.my buddy 04
has some aluminum valve 2 in fact one under the airbox and the other in the fairing next to the canister.is my bik an 2003 sold as a 2004 or what i'm very confused about this.does someone knows about that crap???

Sounds like someone has removed the stock lines and not put them back. Just follow the many canister-ectomy instructions on this site and remove it all.

My bike was also set up this way and all I did was put a plug in the air box where the hose came out and put a small piece of hose on each tank with small tank vent caps. Everything seems to work fine. The vents are not one way so in a tip over there might be a little leakage but the hole is small so it should not be to bad. I tipped the bike over once and the canister caused problems for a while but cleared up, now I won't have any problems. I'm like you and wonder if my bike is really an 03 instead of what they call an 04.

IIRC in the US at least the true '04's were black or orange, so a Silver would be an '03. Not sure about Canada.

The 03 ("early 04") had can etc. that were different from later 04.
The manual shows the later 04.

The early style is much simpler -- no valve, fewer hoses. Canisterectomy is likewise simpler. No worries.
