Barkbusters, but not....

Who makes em" ?
you know the ones....
reinforced hand guards, like BarkBusters, but have a fake carbon fibre cover instead of the colours BB offers,
From memory they were much cheaper and looked very good and strong when I saw them on someone -elses bike on the Dirtbikeworld Nowra ride.

Anyone know what I am talkin about here?

Thanks in advance,
Josh.

Talking Acerbis ?

You thinking about the Acerbis units ?
They're pretty good; they flex in crashes.
I used 'em for a bit on my KTM250exc when I was young and dumb (now I'm just older and dumb! )
Not as much wind protection as the newer barkbusters, which are IMHO the benchmark.

Cheers,
Dave

probably a generic product, sold with MCS or MCA packaging.

Bike biz http://www.bikebiz.com.au/shop/enter.html has some other brand ones, on sale for $55 under handle bar accessories

Josh
for something as relatively low cost as this item is, I'd support the Aussie product.
(and BTW, I did when I earned crap $$$/annum, compared to now)
The savings in levers, and piece of mind is priceless.

sorry mate - a few too many wines has affected me somewhat

I reckon if it's a big-ticket item, that the Aussie Product is not competing with in reason, go for it. The Bark busters (personally) have been tested in VERY harsh conditions with great results.
As a squid rider, barkbusters are a God-Send !

Worth every cent mate.

Cheers,
Dave

Thanks Dave,
There are a number of considerations. That is one of them,
I was unaware that BBusters were made here..

No Problem mate.
at then end of the day it's your hard erned, and who am I to advise you on how to spend it.
But - these cost a pittance in comparison to other goodies you will add to the bike, so if you can, and it's a world-class product, I reckon you should buy Aussie maaaate
..but like most things, if you don;t know about the product, then you're flying somewhat blind in your purchasing researchl hene the value of this site.
(I used it to help my justify a bibler tent purchase - ouch!)

Enjoy your bike & riding nonetheless !
It's about getting out there.

Cheers,
Dave

yeah i had a set of cheapo ones on the xlv, worked well but pretty shoddy casting. I bought the cheap ones at least partly because they didn't have a giant look-at-moi brand name on them. I'd buy another set for the beemer but I can't work out how to fit them without fouling the fairing ... maybe my bars aren't a high enough bend ...

Sharkey,
That was originally my #1 reson for looking elsewhere... I liked the anti-bling of the ones I had seen once before.

Laugh Barkbusters/similar are necessary.. ..

I would never have termed bark busters as "bling" on a dirt bike

..more like necessary protection -sorta like frangers
You need some sort of lever/hand guard protection
...whereas IMHO Steering dampers are more "blingish" - when you can afford to justify them. We lived without them in the 1990's (for us squids anyways).

Life's too short to have a broken clutch/brake lever 400km from home....

Cheers,
Dave

Dave, no doubt about the busted bits, hence the post.
The probem I have (had) was with the large "EGO" branding etc...
Just not my style.

for instance, a 220rwkw 4cyl jap car, indistinguishable from stock.
It is possible, and is the height of cool...IMHO.

Others may (and probably will) dissagree..

Respect,
Josh.
