Im going the other way Andrew - im not taking the Swag this time - to heavy and bulky - you should consider a couple of factors, sure its easier to 'camp' but the swag you will need will be more than likley heavy, its going to be 4 - 5 weeks of very very cold nights - and more than likley that weight will be carried high on the bike.

Im going for a 1- 2 ppl tent - single pole easy erect 5 minute up and down - the tent not moi -

andrew, I had another look in paddy palin yesterday - self inflating base camp mattress about 180, a piece of canvas you might acquire somewhere at cost unknown and a king sized polar fleece blanket makes for a nice swag, just don't get the canvas too small in size, it should wrap over your feet, your head and wide enough to go around you twice.

I'm currently using a foam mattress but am going to use the base camp one which inflates to about 6cm as I hear they are far far better and they roll up to a very small package.

andrew, two years living in a swag and no problems re critters nor none I ever heard about. Just about every stock camp in the north live out of swags. But I point out we were usually out of them fairly early in the day.

But suit yourself, I find tents claustrophobic but that might be my size... the last time i slept in something approximating a tent was at cadet camp in '77. As for sleeping bags, every one I've tried (and they've all been cheapo) is like climbing into a straightjacket - they must make them for midgets!

am looking at getting a single swag to use on the bike and in the forby, i have currently got a mammoth double thing thats nearly as big as me (and i a bit on the large side ) was poking round on the net and found thease any ideas for or against? was going to get the single one with the mozzie net and put a self inflating materess in it. would mainly be used for shorter trips and overnighters. its either this or mouses idea . also WHEN WILL THEY MAKE A SLEEPING BAG FOR THE BIG FELLA! if i get them zipped up i have trouble unzipping them
