Woody,

I'm currently on a world tour with my 990 and I'm really upset with my front wheel. I changed the rim a few months ago and it's bent again. Spokes are rusting like hell and brake disc are bent. So I would like to change all this to something stronger.

What rim/hub/spokes would you recommand considering I can't spend thousands and thousands... ?
- I want to keep the dual discs.
- I want to keep riding with Pirelli Scorpions.
- I want stainless spokes/nipples
- I don't like silver rims

I'm riding two-up, 20% off-road, 80 on road. When we go off-road we take it easy as we're two-up with plenty of luggages.

What can you recommand and at what price (including shipping in the US)?

Sorry I'm writing in a hurry I'm stealing wifi on the parking lot of a Wendy's somewhere in Florida

KTM 990 21" front rim or wheel

No fun being on a great trip and having to deal with this stuff, but we can set you up with the ideal solution, so that you won't have to mess with in the future.

We recommend going with a narrower black Excel rim, a 1.85x21" and Stainless Steel spokes and nipples to prevent any rusting. While we are it, we might as well make it even stronger and Superlace it. If you wanted to save money we could re-use your stock hub, because that's the only thing worth a damn on that wheel, but then you would be without your bike.

So, if you want a new wheel ready to go, then we can go with a new stock hub, or a new billet hub in any color for about $15 more. Both hubs are dual disc and you can mount your stock rotors to them.

You would still use the same size tire, and no problem riding two up on it. We have had very few people i.e. 1-2 out of several hundred that have said anything about the narrower rims effect on on-road handling. And only raved about it off-road capabilities.

Once you get the wheel and swap tire out and the discs over, you could send us your used hub and we can probably give you some trade-in for it. Could put the whole wheel in the same box and we would even provide a shipping label to make it easy.

Here is a price breakdown:

$111 -- Superlace
$272 -- Excel 1.85x21-36H Black Rim
$125 -- SS Spokes & Nipples
$299 -- Billet hub in any color(no need for this if you go with your stock hub, $15 less if you go with new stock hub).

Total = $807

Shipping in the US is about $25 for UPS Ground which is 5 days to Florida. We can expedite if necessary.

All parts are currently in stock although there are only 5 1.85x21" Excel rims left in stock in the US and Excel has no expected delivery date for new stock.

Hope that helps. Give us a call or shoot us an email if you're interested or if you have any other questions.

Thanks,
Chris

Woody,
Just got a Triumph 800XC, looking for set of wheels for offroad. Anything out there yet? Thought maybe I could order front, rear hub & send them your way for completion?
Cheers

Woody's 19-17 on my 2002 LC4 "The Camel"

This is my 2002 LC4e with 10 gallons capacity. Next week I leave to do the Route de Nord, James Bay Road and Trans-Taiga with some new buddies from Quebec.

Pretty much everything on this bike has been renewed, rebuilt or added. It has 10,000 miles and has been to all the Maritimes except PEI.

And it handles really well now with Wood's tubeless set-up.
