Lunch with Dick

Dick and I met at 7-ish this morning at Peet's for some caffeine 'n sugar.

Then we headed out to lunch...

We headed up to Livermore via 84, then out Tesla Rd, and across the Central Pit on 132. We stopped somewhere in the sierra foothills for expensive gasoline and water, then went through Coulterville, Greenley Hill, and some funky back road I saw on the map that included 5-6 miles of graded dirt road, then into Yosemite, and up across Tioga Pass which opened yesterday.

This was the first photo stop...

Dick...

more fookin' water...

Dick says Hi!

tioga pass

lunch!

sonora pass

and we ended the day at the black watch with a single pint of fat tire

Here is the route to and from lunch. We went east of Tioga pass and came west over Sonora. Not a bad father's day present if I do say so myself. (and I do)

You know the route and Pierce already filled in the details so I will just add a few shots taken during the ride.

A couple of shots of Half Dome from Olmstead overlook

Yosemite makes the pig look tiny

A little bike pr0n

This erratic caught my eye

View towards Lake Tenaya from Olmstead overlook

Don't blow this turn looking at the scenery

Toulumne was still a swamp but the beauty of this spot never fails to impress me.

There was still plenty of snow in the meadow but the bike beckons.

As mentioned the rivers were full. There were little waterfalls all over the park. (Yes, it was freezing cold)

Pass 1 of 2

Lots of riding and I wish 395 was not quite so fast paced as the east side of the Sierra is lovely. GOing down the highway at 80 MPH leaves little time for Kodak moments.

Pass number 2 of 2 - nice salute Pierce

A couple more shots from Sonora Pass

We descened back into the morass of the central valley with traffic congestion and heat form this great setting.

What a wonderful place for lunch maybe I will go back next weekend for ribs.

Did I mention, we did about 5 miles of dirt? on J132, east of Greenley Hill, instead of taking the usual Smith Station Rd north to 120, we stayed on Greenley Hill Rd and took Moore Creek Rd which brought us to 120 right at Buck Meadows. Some real purdy country back in there. near the south end of Moore Creek Rd, my AAA maps show "Bowden Cave" right next to the West Fork Merced River (barely a creek), but we didn't see any sign of the cave, and didn't bother to explore for it... If we'd stayed on Greenley Hill even farther, it would have taken us to Old Yosemite Rd which seems on my map to run right into Yosemite Park (and looked to be 20+ miles of dirt, more than I wanted to take on my R11RS).
