"Roy just came in the house holding a Roman Battle Shield..."

Outfitting the new R1200 GS for the Alaska run with Sparks, and I ordered 2 skidplates from Ernie. Anxiously waited for the USPS to deliver them from Minnesota, and they arrived on Saturday.

I opened the box and !WOAH!! These are magnificent examples of engineering and CRAFTMANSHIP. So well thought out, and install was a breeze, maybe all of 10 minutes.

I had come in from the garage to show Jenny, who was on the phone with a sister, and she made the title observation :

"Roy just came in the house holding a Roman Battle Shield..."

That is a pretty good description of the engine skidder.

As a post script, Ernie called me on Wednesday, just to make sure I had received the plates and was happy with them. We chatted for a while, and found much in common (guitars, etc.) He truly is an artist with these skidplates, and a genuinely quality human! You will not be disappointed in purchasing.

Question R1200GS Skidplate Front Lip Height

Hi Ernie,

Is it possible to make the front lip on your skidplate higher/taller, so that it covers most, or all, of the crossover pipe?

Hi Farmerger, That would'nt be a problem. I'd have to start with a piece of aluminum just a little longer. How much taller did you have in mind. I'm thinking about 2". Let me know. I can sure make one up special for you. Ernie

An extra 2" looks to be just right. I'm just hoping to cover most of the crossover exhaust pipe. Can you send me a pm with a price for that. Thank you kindly.

Modified Roman Battle Shield! (works w/SW Motech guards!!)

I had added the SW Motech engine guards to the bew GS, and discovered that Ernie's skidder needed some modificationh to get correct fittment. Picked up the phone, talked to him, and he suggested a course of action that would let him modify the skidplate. I mailed it out with the areas needing removal marked in indellible sharpie, and he sent it back in a flash.

As you can see, it still looks like a Roman Battle Shield, but now fits perfectly with the SW Motech engine guard!

Many Thanks, Ernie!

regards,

Rudley
