Question Airhead lighting options

I noticed the headlamp on my bike is cracked... Must have taken a rock to the face or something. Since I have to replace it, it got me thinking about better alternatives that could fit inside the headlamp bucket. Anyone know of anything that would slap right into the bucket of a /6?

Thanks!

Just about any 12v aftermarket piece will work, relocating the fuse panel in the headlight is the gigantic PITA.

There is some info on the net for doing it though, not an uncommmon mod, just a pain to do.

I am thinking about doing it on my R100 project.

Headlights from a 747 will work, too, if you work at it enough.

This statement is not really true.

It's useful to know that you can replace just the glass. Your dealer can get it. You'll probably need a new gasket.

As I recall it's possible to pop an H4 halogen bulb into the /6 shell by simply trimming the bulb receptacle a bit, though I may be thinking of /5s. The halogen bulb puts off a bit more heat which concerns some people and not others.

This should do it.

LoserSteve, I know almost nothing about airheads or electronics so I can only help by telling you this.

DO NOT LISTEN TO MUTINEER ON THIS SUBJECT. HE KNOWS NOT WHAT HE DOES.

He is a great guy, listen to him about the law, about semionitics, about obscure Russian Poets, about Whiskey Wine and Song. Do NOT listen to him about motorcycle electronics.

I hope this helps.

Your friend, Jurgen

you know when you think about he is pretty much right.

I have seen aftermarket headlight shells on airheads, but if I did it I would probably start a fire. A large fire. You prbably should turn and run if I start talking about anything with wires.

I just saw a headlight lens and reflector on E-Bay for sale. It's at $5.00 right now, but it'll probably go up. Type in BMW R90 to the search window and you should get it.

Yes, you're thinking of /5s.

I've had both, so everything I know about airheads has blended together into a moderate amount of knowledge about /5.5s.
