Wilbers would have been smarter to give him 90 days or 6 months notice that they would be taking over the North American distribution themself, as is done in many businesses. Or give Klaus an exclusive on the BMW shocks.

If Wilbers product has to have service and it has to go to Germany it will be a PITA that will likely kill their effort or they will need another Klaus.
Did you even read what Klaus said? He doubled sales every year. Try starting any business and doing that even one year, let alone a few consecutive years.

I just made a statement with my credit card. New full-zoot shock for the rear of the R1200RT - from Klaus. He's always gotten back to me on the phone if I had a question. Support is worth something - to me, at least. It was worth every penny and then some on the FJR1300. :)

all the best,

Mike

yep you are right, but it's still the decision of the company as to how they will distribute. Seems foolish to me to knock him out unless you have someone who can do the warranty and rebuild work here. Why does a $500 or more shock need rebuilding that often anyway, maybe there is an opening for a Jap company who would make one which didn't!

I do not see what the big deal is right now, Wilburs is not going out of business, they are going to use Klaus as a dealer, they just want to sell to more bike brands. Klaus wrote right in his msg that he does not like to advertise in an area that does not have paid advertising. Maybe Wilburs can see an area where they can sell more product. If Klaus does not want to work on shocks not bought through him, that is business. I am glad that there is other brands other than Ohlins.

Thanks Klaus for the reply. The reason I went with Klaus and Wilbers was of all the people on the websites that had upgraded their shocks the Wilbers customners seemed to be the most satisfied before and after installation. A few friends with Ohlins had trouble getting their shocks, maybe because of saturation in the market of new bikes with Ohlins. An aquatantance sells Biturbo and he told me to stay away from them in his word it was easier gettin parts for a Moto Guzzi than getting a response from Biturbo he is getting out of his business with them. I liked the idea of both high speed and low speed compression damping. I recieved the product when I was told I would, and they have worked well

The big deal is - if I read Klaus' post correctly - that Klaus is eating warranty costs on his own. For that reason he is only providing warranty on things he sells - sounds reasonable. If you buy direct from Wilbers, you need to send it back to Germany for warranty work, which could prove to be a hassle and costly. Dirk of course neglects to mention this.

Now, since Klaus is getting undercut by the factory, how long will he be around to provide that warranty service? I'm guessing that Wilbers will provide warranty on any Wilbers shock, bought from Klaus or from them, but that still leaves you with the shipping/duties question.

key word. "guessing".

this whole fiasco just reeks of what amounts to a set up (unintended but key word is indifference) from a typical european company using typical indifferent european attitudes about how the average consumer will ultimately be left holding the bag when it comes time to deal with problems. what a disgrace.

Need answers

Ok Dirk .I bet you had no ideea what you are going to start by posting your post here hmm??. In order to clear all this confusion Klaus did give us his side of the story. Now is your time to finish this. Most of the guys here agree (and stand by) with Klaus-( He put these company on US map,he works hard ,he deserve to make a profit and he is right here 30 milles from me if I need him.) Know, we also agree with you that the company have to grow, extend, etc. Here we are (us the customer)with a new offer from you but also with couple questions. Please make this clear.Forget about the group sale. Treat us individualy. #1-Is there any real savings by ordering directly from the manufacture and if there is any what is the % ??.#2- If we have any waranty issue do I have to send it back to Germany??? Ending up with all this customs and vat?? issue is not what I ,I would look for it. Looking at the way you answer the other questions, you look like a bright guy so please give us the answer that we are waiting for. Remember- MONY and WARRANTY. Thank you.

He advertised where there is not paid advertising???? Where??? I don't see a conflict between his statement and his actions. IMHO, responding here is not advertising...............

all the best,

Mike

I will likely be sending my rear shock in for some warranty service work. I am very glad that I'll be sending it to Klaus in New Jersey rather than Dirk in Germany. Klaus has always been straight up and reliable and has singlehandedly built Wilbers' reputation here in the States. Try calling Germany when you need your repair work done and see how long it will take and what it will cost.
