yes....pick your sloe berries at end of October.....put them in the freezer overnight.....when they thaw out the next day prick them with, say a fork, and fill an empty bottle with them up to about one third of it. Put about 2 table spoons of sugar in it and then fill with gin. Leave sitting about for as long as you want turning the bottle up and down every so often and when you come to empty the berries (at Xmas time !!)out pour the gin out through coffee filter paper....and thats how easy it is to make....the hardest part is to find the sloe bushes!!

Sloe gin is not gin, any more than Drambuie is Scotch. |

I remember a night in college, 1975 or so.
Sloe gin was a popular beverage, sloe gin fizz, sloe screw, etc. I liked it OK, not being a big beer fan at the time. Someone bet I could not drink a glass (like a tumbler) of sloe gin straight, in one gulp. I'll take that bet, I said. Well it went down easy, no problem. But in about two minutes it came up - hard. To this day, I can't even THINK about sloe gin without reliving that feeling. It was years before I could even drink anything RED! Dr. Pepper reminds me of the taste, so I can't drink that either.
