Hopefully (now that custody is basically done judge agreed with us) I'm picking up a commuter bike. I think cheap will be the goal, there is a newer suzuki 500f with one messed up fairing, and a older (02) ninja 500r I saw. Has anyone ridden both of those? The reviews say the ninja has a little more power, but the specs I found out the suzuki at 50 hp and ninja at 80? If that's the case, I think that's a big difference...

Where did you find that? What are you planning on doing with it?

If you ever go to sell it let me know.

I have been on both motors.Kawi is more of a modern powerplant and makes better power[not 80hp though].The Zuk is aircooled and maybe low 40hp.Kaw motor revved higher. My experience was from the mid 90's but I'll bet not much has changed,

If it's still available next week, I think I'm getting the Zuk. It's newer, even though it has fairing damage.. The ninja was older, and the guy never replied.. I think the suzuki might be cheaper insurance too...

Oh, and anyone know any good mechanics that can actually diagnose a no spark issue on my ktm? I don't want to throw money at it by buying a new cdi and have that not be the issue...

I'm sure there are plenty that can do it. My preference has always been GDR in Wilkesboro, if that's not too far away for you. Top notch shop. They fully disassembled my 200 XC-W down to the cases to weld a crack near the oil drain plug and put it all back together and it's running better than ever. Good shop rates, too.

Have you ridden one of those little bikes? We look a bit odd on something that sized!

Have you looked at other cheap bikes, like the Yamaha Seca, Suzuki Bandit, SV650, Honda Nighthawk?

It came out of Vermont via Brooklyn, NY. It's my nice quiet Gamelands scouting rig for hunting and fishing.

The deeper the sand, the better it works. Runs like a top!

I looked at a SECA, but couldn't really find anything about them.
The sv650 and me "meh" I have no idea why, but for me that was one of the least enjoyable motorcycles I've ever ridden. And if I'm on a "bleh" bike, I'd rather pay the cheaper insurance... (<500cc vs a 650 being <800)
the old FZR might be interesting... could be enjoyable enough to pay more insurance for..

Wait, what are you implying? I'm a dainty little flower don't say I'm not..

Hell, even on my 954 I looked like a fat dinosaur humping an egg. That's just always going to be the case..

Edit: one of those nighthawks is a 250 cc.. I don't know if that would get my fat ass to 540 speeds... ;)

I rode one of those 250 Nighthawks in the MSF class years ago. It's not as bad as you think. But you won't get any speeding tickets though.

The 750 version is a rather simple bike, and decent looking.

Was thinking of something for my son to cut his street teeth. He gets his license in July, hoped to have something streetable by then. Also something I could try to talk the wife into getting on and teaching her to ride.
Wish I could tag the TTR225 but NC won't hear about that anymore. Hell I have yet to repair his TTR125LE. (SIGH)
Is it a TW or a BW?

Can't swing it right now. Daughter just had surgery we had to pay for and the holidays have me deep in the hole.

I am interested though. Details?
