I have been looking at the atlas and gazetteer for the Southport area and would be interested in what you found. We should get together this fall. I have a couple supermotos but with the right tires I'm sure they would be fine for FS roads. |

The places we explored were off 211 just before you get into Southport. We have a big rally at BRMC the weekend after next, so maybe we can get together in Nov.

Me too - work in RTP, live in West Cary (practically Apex).
+1 for trips to Uwharrie.

Let me know when you want to go. I've been there three times so far. Lots of rocks on the ORV trails.

I have only eaten there a couple times. Mr P's is my favorite bistro. Fishy Fishy is pricy and snobby but the best view for sunsets (next to Provisions). Cape Fear has typical sea food (right on the Cape Fear River). The Pharmacy is nice. Dry Street Pub has good sandwiches and pizza. Zackory's (sic) is relatively new and has fair prices (in front of Walmart). All but Zacks are a bicycle ride from my home (three blocks from the marina). P. J.'s has the best breakfast and is cheap (directly across the street from the marina).

Another Carolina boy checking in.
I used this site a while back to get trail info in Colorado. But at that time, there wasn't much action on here from the east coasters. Nice to see so many local and semi-local dual-sporters on here. Looking forward to riding with you in the future. Uwharrie, coastal loop runs, wherever really, I'm ready to roll. And I've got a couple of other knuckleheads around here that would ride too. That said, anybody got a spare rear shock for a KLR 650?!?!??!!!! My bike is in seriously bad shape right now for being a daily driver.

Seems to me somebody needs to pull the trigger and set up a ride.

Basically going to be a big coastal loop, Oriental, Beaufort, Cedar Island, Ocracoke, Hatteras, Nags Head, and a kick ass scenic return on OLD 264. Probably make a long weekend of it. Will be a 4x4 chase truck or two (and a trailer) to haul the dogs, camping gear, fishing gear, and help get stuff/people out on the beach, well, those without dualsports anyway. It's got potential to be freakin' awesome! Want to keep on planning and shoot you guys some details?

Sounds great Rip. I've been wanting to do a coastal ride just like that.

Probably going to have a few female bikers along as well. Hope that won't hurt anyone's feelings!
