Arkaroola Photos cont. TDM Adventurer 's view
![]() Well guys!........... we didn't actually arrive at Arkaroola in day light..... more like 8pm................the last 50+ or so kms in the dark after misjudging the tracks from Lynhurst ("the long way 'round" to coin a phrase!) to Arkaroola. A bit challenging with dust covered head light protectors,............ luckily we saw very little of the local wild life which can get the heart betting rather f........ quickly when they jump out in front. Rehydration was the first order of business before setting up our "Bush Camp"........... (in the nice warm bunk house............. of course!) We all thought we had already qualified as so called "Adventure Riders" as we had camped in tents on the first night..... this being the third night..... last night was at the Prairie Hotel Parachilna. Now for the pics !............................. Setting up for the ride ![]() Along the Wheal Turner Mine road ![]() On the way to Umberatana ![]() Some one will always be out to get the camera man ???? Go Barry !!!! ![]() Neat style Charlie !!!! ![]() Just follow the winding dust trail............ ![]() Cheers..........................cough! ...........cough!....cough!!!!!! ![]() Over every rise is a new fabulous breath-taking view ![]() Moon scape scenery don't you think?????????????????? ![]() Did ya see the wild mountain goats back there John ??????? ![]() Tail-end Tony.......don't stop or he'll switch off the beemer & want to talk some more!!!!!!! ![]() Back on the road to Copley. ![]() A glimpse of the road surface............small,...soft,...loose,....slip pery and bloody FAST riding...................an absolute blast ![]() The winding road out of the Gammon Ranges ![]() Now back to Arkaroola.........................errrrr ie nearly again !!!!! ![]() Just love reminising over this pic..............the best fast flowing dirt roads I've ever ridden............................................ ...yee!!!!!..... hah!!!!! ![]() Again the first order of business back at "camp" was rehrydrating the body. The next day I left the local troops to join the Shearwaters/Westernport Ulysses Adventure Riders for their beyond Arkaroola to Marree, William Creek & Roxby trek. The next episode soon. TDMster: Cool ride report, good pictures, looks like a lot of fun and thanks for posting it. Two questions- Where did the engine guards on the TDM come from? And, in your opinion, how does the TDM handle in the dirt relative to a GS?

Made all accessories myself. TDM v Beemer.....Most people will say there is no comparison..... I say it depends how you ride & look after them. I am not an Enduro rider. When you check out a comparison of the fun & fear factor & it's useabilty at the actual speed an individual will be riding the bikes ..... I am quite happy with my TDM 850 Adventurer.........ie 850cc x 190kg dry weight versus 1150cc x 230 kg +.......there has to be something in the TDM's favour don't you think? At the speed I ride...... quite quick on smooth dirt.....slowing to.........cautious on the rough, my TDM with no suspension improvements made to date, but planned, I stayed with a GS1150A quite well .....straight....smooth with no floating or any sign of tank slappers likely. Great fun riding side by side at speed.....much less dust to eat. However down the fast creek bed crossings the beemer just floated, while I was more cautious, occasionaly graizing the bash plate, but soon powering up to be along side again. My Answer: It's how you ride them................. or look it another way................< $5,000 against $25,000+ with accessories............ which is more fun for the average rider?

Thanks. You've inspired me, my friend. I have a high mileage TDM that I had been threatening to experiment with as an adventure bike and you've made some good points here. The TDM has been my all time favorite bike but, given that a multistrada has replaced it on the street, I think I'll just make it a monster trailie. I'll let you know how it comes out and thanks for the inspiration. Incidentally, good job on the engine guards and the skid plate.
