may be joining the fray, got a test ride tomorrow on a 93. will badly need an (quite) exhaust and a rear tire.

taking donations for a stock exhaust or advice on quite exhaust cans.
the one on this bike is completely gutted.

A bit late reply but the answer is YES, it can be done....BUT:
If you mostly running pavement it will decrease you stability at high speed.
R knuckle can be used along with R shock to preserve the overall height. Any other combo will result in either lowered or lifted rear. I use R shock + knuckle and sit about 2" higher, and it sucks (on C swingarm).
R swingarm is 1/8 NARROWER at the axle then C swingarm, so you either have to use R rear wheel or narrow sprocket side spacer.

R shock warrants wiring re-route and grinding battery cover, totally worth it though as it's adjustable for preload and rebound unlike C one and rebuildable too. There are some folks on yahoo KLX group that done it (the R swingarm swap) and loving it...

Thanks, learning more everyday.

My shock, which I assume is stock has a preload adj. but either way I'll be considering a rebuild this Fall.

Oh yea, now part of the fray,

Start saving and get one of these Works Performance Shocks. It is the way to go! I know it is expensive but it is custom built for you. No respringing or revalving needed. You even get to keep your toolbox! That is worth like $500 right there..

Get the forks revalved and resprung at the same time. I was surprised to find myself having fun in the whoops in Death Valley. The suspension is absolutely the best upgrade I have made to the KLX. I wish I would have done it first.

Thanks, I'll consider that, not many vendors are offering a shock for this bike.
I've used Works before, excellent product.

I need/want to get it on the road with new brakes and lines first, (on the way) and the other item is the exhaust, the PO used a chisel to cut out the end cap, also looking at options there.

Does anyone know how to replace the ignition switch assembly? I got the cylinder out, but it's still connected by wires. Someone took a screwdriver to it and screwed it up big time. Looking to replace. Wonder if a KLR one would work?

While I'm enjoying the KLR, I have to say I still miss my 1993 KLX650C.

So, I got one en route to me

It is plated BUT will not pass inspection here. I need a high low headlight. How many watt bulb can the R support? I already have an LED for the tail light and just have to pop on a horn and it will pass.

I love my KLR but I think this will be better for what I do. Besides, my 16 year old is ready to ride and the KLR is plenty for him to learn on.
