I 've made several guitars/banjos and wood strip canoes also... NICE !

This one will be lighter than the 3.5-pound one I carried on my trip and has several other design changes, most notably the body and sound hole shape and the handlebar mustache bridge/saddle. When this photo was made he'd just attached the fretboard and drilled the holes in the headstock for the tuning keys. No finish work had yet been done on the guitar. The frets still have to be filed and recrowned. The bridge was just sitting on the top, not attached yet. He'll likely string this one up to set the action this week or next.

We've both always liked his 40-year-old-plus Craviola's rich bass and mellow overall tone and so he's hoping this one will have a similar sound, but be military-grade tough.

Very cool idea with the guitar, but I find it hard to believe you could get the same warm resonance you can with wood. There's a reason guitars are made from trees...

The point of this guitar is to have something that's not fragile like a fine wooden guitar that can come along for the ride, whatever or wherever the ride may be. It wouldn't have been the first choice for Andrés Segovia for a concert, but it doesn't sound bad either.

I'm not an accomplished musician by any means, but having this guitar along made the trip for me and my two pups much more enjoyable. I made this at a remote campsite on the banks of the Alabama River, miles away from the nearest building. A lullaby for the pups...

Thanks! That's Roscoe... he was constantly scouring the shoreline for sticks I'd be likely to throw for him. The other dog, Bailey, who was half under my chair, was a little more laid back.

This is beyond cool. Does your brother have a price range in mind? Light, AND tough.. I have always just brought my harmonica because of those two demands... this would change things!
