I've been reading up on the scramblers and .... sorry for the hijack but what do you all think about the 07's being made in Thailand? Seems to zap some of the appeal in a way

You are correct, darn triumph owners forums haha Looks like its just parts but complete bikes possible down the road. I personally don't care, it just seems odd to me if that were to be the case..odder than say the Honda 599 being a european bike as its assembled in Italy, etc.

For maximum "in-country" content, you'll need to go with Ducati or Moto Guzzi. Maybe BMW, excluding the singles.

Everyone else has world-wide parts sourcing/manufacturing.
