Credit Scores

So what's the skinny on credit scores? We recently had a credit
report run and both fishwife and I were assigned credit scores by
Fair Isaac, Empirica, and Beacon. All the scores are three digits, and
the range is 75. What's the scale? If it's from 1-1000, I'm lookeeng good
mang; if it's 1-100000, I'm hosed.

Hey fish... over here we aren't fortunate enough to have Fair Isaac, Empirica and Beacon. Yep shor-nuff, in OZ its " Mustard, Custard and your in the shit! :):

Oh... and just in case your hosed... Its an oldie but a goodie!

Now that our Aussie mates have had their "Fish Fry" on to your question.

Credit scores are based from 0 to 1000. They were created by banks and credit reporting companies to simplify credit approvals. For example, a credit score of 750 or higher would be instantly approved by the credit grantor's computerized application system. A score of 650 to 749 might require a review by a human. A score of 300 or less would be posted in the lunch room for entertainment.

The score itself is based on lots of different things. Length of employment, income, debt ratio, payment history, length of time at current address and so on. The idea is to put a score on the likelihood of you repaying the debt.

The different companies, Fair Isaac and so forth are all trying to be THE credit scorer. Kinda like VHS versus Beta.

Thanks Fast, you rock. That's exactly what I was looking for.
For Fair Isaac, I'm in the "instantly give this man all the money
he wants" category, but Empirica wants to do a cavity search
before cutting the check. Bottom line is we got approved fairly
easily, but I just wanted to know the secret code.
