Ok guys...my full face helmet isn't cutting it and I want to replace it with a Simpson GS3-MX (or maybe an XD but I'm cheap
) but...recognizing that I'm 6'3" and have a large wind profile, how bad is that visor at speed? I do have the MadStad bracket on my windshield which made a huge difference but in any kind of wind at Freeway speeds I'm still buffetted around quite a bit. Historically, I haven't noticed any motocross style helmet problems with wind at normal off-road speeds but during my commute...it maybe a different story. Any suggestions...yah I know use two helmets but that's no good on tours where I'm actually riding lots of different roads. Anybody compared the GS3 to the XD in that regard?Yes I did some searching...and reread the Simpson thread but there's not too much mention about how much wind the new GS3 catches at speed. Thanks!!

Most of the XD guys end up removing the visor or it will jerk your head around they say.
I have ridden a couple of times with my dirt helmet, an HJC AC-X2 and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I would remove the visor if I was going to use it every day, it did jerk my head around a bit if you needed to turn your head especially. in the rain it would suck since I only have goggles, I assume the Simpson has a shield like the XD so that shouldn't be a problem?

I ride my 1000 with an XD. Never had problems, never removed the visor. Gets a little rough above 90, but you shouldn't be going that fast, right?

XD on a Wee. With and without the MadStad bracket. No problems with the visor and I like the extended chinbar. Just a little problem with the windnoise but I wear Max-1s most of the time for anything over 5 miles.

I love my XD, no problems, buffets less than any of my other helmets without visors.
Most of the noise on the Wee is generated by the windscreen When I ride the DR the XD is soo quiet! |

Ok...thanks guys....
That's what I wanted to know...that 90 thing shouldn't be too much of a problem
Hmmm now I just have to find a Simpson dealer so I can see if the XXL will fit my fat head or if the XD fits better. Thanks for the info!! Quote:

I love my XD and haven't noticed many problems with buffeting. Granted, I ride mostly back roads and off road, so my speeds aren't often supersonic. At higher speeds, I do sometimes get some minor and manageable buffeting when turning sideways, but I can lift my head up as if looking at the sky and get no extra lift at all. I ride a Dakar with the stock windshield (bigger than the regular F650GS windshield and with a lip at the top), so it may parly be the effectiveness of the screen, but I'm also 6'3", so I'm sitting pretty tall in the saddle. Overall, I've found it to be the best all-around helmet I've had yet.
