totally agree. i've read the story of this bike several times. i didn't realize the owner was a member here. that bike is a masterpiece. incredible job gregor.

Get the whole story at Team Incomplete.

I still kinda like the old boxers -- and they do sound sweet with Contis or Dunstalls.

Here's another one. This one is based on a r80g/s believe it or not. One of my favorites. JT

German Cafe Racers

Hi,

last weekend I have been at the BMW Boxer meeting in Freudenburg, Germany.

There have been some interesting Beemers:

This one was even for sale, but I haven't asked for the price:

More pics from the meeting can be found on my website R100.Net

Regards

Bernd

nOOby question

I've always wondered - why do the cafe racers sometimes have the elaborate re-routing of the exhaust headers?

The one that started it all, swept back pipe with a "goldie" muffler........

Help a dense yank out here - so the reason for the elaborate exhausts are to emulate the first cafe racers - no performance boost or any other practical reason? I'm a geek - I have to know these things or I loose my membership card

A well-designed header system can reduce backpressure and increase flow-through. Usually that'll give you something, mostly at the top end. But the design has to have the tubes matched in length pretty well to be very effective, that's why sometimes they seem overly convoluted. But not every convoluted system has necessarily been so carefully designed...

In the beginning

At first it was reduced weight, more ground clearance, cool factor and less back pressure. Reduced back pressure does not always mean more power. Later cosmetics and truly better performance came into play.
