Jackets - Why the double zipper?

I've noticed that quite a few of the better jackets have the double zipper. I'm sure there's a reason why this is handy, but it's just not penetrating my thick skull:)

For the zip-in thermal liners.

Edit: Some have zip-in waterproof liners as well.

When you say a double zipper; do you mean a zipper that zips up and down? If so, I zip my Savannaha up from the bottom and then adjust the second zipper up so there is less pressure around my waist.

Or if you're all zipped and buttoned up, you can zip up from the bottom to take a piss.

Facilitates taking a pee without having to unzip the whole jacket.

I have a Joe rocket that has two zippers with a flap in between the two. If I'm in a hurry and only zip up the outer one I notice the air blowing in, where as if I zip both thers is almost no noticable air movement.

You are talking about two main zippers in the front, right? With a flap (usually) between them. Thats for better insulation from oncoming wind, rain, etc.

My jacket has that. Water will seep through the front if only one zipper is zipped. Any other time though, I just use the outside zip.
