How do you improve on perfection

You guys are doing a fantastic job, you don't need any help.

Now its here where gobi calls me over the Autocom and says " hey fuck flick, I think I lost my clutch"
Holy flip ! we are near nowhere ! Elk City is no city, it's not even a town. We are screwed............maybe

So, Jim and DK go to work on it and Tim runs back to Elk City for mineral oil.

and I assume the only position worthy of the ride captain.
"can you boys keep it down to foghorn level" "

The culprit

Well having the best crew paid off. DK and Jim got Gobi going again. A trailside bleeding is not excatly the best way to do it and his clutch action was not perfect, but we were on our way and Gobi was smileing again.

And here we are about halfway into the biggest roadless area in the lower 48. And it's getting late, and it's getting cold, and we are climbing. Yep, it starts to snow ! In fact that is snow you see below in those pine limbs. We are looking for a camp.

Its August 30th for crying out loud !!

We make camp at Observation Point. Its around 8000' ! What a view, priceless. Have you ever heard absolute silence ? We saw no one.

While we made camp it was 35 degrees. Although no one was cold for some reason. We started a fire and dinner was served. However, it will get much colder overnight, how cold ? You'll see when I return my friends
Good night !

Where were we ? Oh yea, the cold. How cold did it get that late August night in the middle of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness ?
This cold:

Thats frost on Gobis tent.

On on my nine-fiddy

DK's Dakar

But we get a fire going quickly and DK starts right in making oatmeal and coffee for everyone.

We then break camp and head off to ride the Magruader to Darby Montana, still quite some distance away.
During the ride we have a cow Elk jump right across the road in front of us ! Jeez ! They are as big as a horse. 1st wildlife siteing and many more to come as you will see and those we have photos of.

Gobi

We make it Darby Montana for lunch. This very nice girl was our waitress. Friendly people out west.

From Darby we ride south to the hamlet of Shoup Idaho were we encounter some really cool wildlife (and have photos to prove it) and excellent riding.

up next:
STAGE 2
Shoup Idaho to Salmon via Panther Creek/Morgan Creek & the Yankee Fork.

Great report! Welcome to Idaho btw.... Hey, did you guys find some of the nice hotsprings up around Shoup? And the snow, Aug 30th? That's pretty normal.

Rob23: I sold the 1200. Loved it though.
Brother Dan: Normal for you maybe . It always warmed up nicely though by 10am. We hit very wide temp ranges during this trip. But as you will see later on we go south into the Oywahees where it was 95 !

The TransAlp was flawless. And it was piloted by one hell of a rider. That Jim Matarrazo can ride like a 20 year old !
