numbnut bike racer almost took me out =(
Carpool lane heading home, see this bright headlight pretty far back but it is low then high, few seconds then repeat. I am thinking modulator set funny?
Then it gets closer, damn ninja rider, pulling wheelies in the lane every 1/4 mile or so doing 75+. I think screw that, move over to avoid him sharing/passing in my lane. Nope the decides it would be cool to pull beside me and do another wonder wheelie! Anyway riding next to a asshat pulling wheelies is not fun, he almost lost it coming down and I was already pulling away to the next lane to avoid riding over the dead body if he fell.It is no wonder some folks dislike bikes, they see this type of moron and think most of us are like that. not cool! |

Had a very similar experience on the bay bridge the other morning. I am in left side of lane cruising alon between 45 and 50 and some moron on a honda shadow misses my knee with their handlebars by mere inches as they split lanes past me doing probably 50-60. arrgh
glad you are all right

Had a near miss with a bike last Friday as well. heading south on US395 across the Double Springs Flats and a northbound cruiser pulls out to pass a line of four cars. He ain't got the room so I hit my modulator and he keeps on coming. I head for the shoulder, the northbound cars are slowing and pulling over as well and he keeps on coming. finally I'm stopped on the shoulder and the asshat gives me a thank you wave as he roars by! It was like he expected I would share my lane with him!

it's a shame!
Shame how many of us have these experiences.
Not the type of adventure riding I was thinking of Time to make my oil slick machine and rear rocket blaster! |

What you could've done is signal when you see him approaching that there is LEO - double tap on your helmet and waving your hand to the ground to slow down. If he has any sense, he'll slow down or at least doesn't pull wheelies in your lane.
I was passing a car on the outside lane with 120+ in a 100 section, when a squid on a motorcycle breezed past me going close to 200. I saw him coming, but if I hadn't and if I had swerved in my lane we both would've lost it. However, I didn't feel it appropriate to follow him at that speed to correct his behaviour. Where are the LEO when you need them?

for sure, the guy is a dick, but he wasn't incorrect in assuming that in *that* game of chicken, folks would get out of his way. his number will come up. i got passed by a dolt on a chopper doing the same thing two weekends ago. i dont *want* him to be hurt, but they way he rode, he'll be in deep crap soon enough. |

If he was at your nine, and trying to ride beside you for awhile, you could try slapping at his control and hitting his killswitch. Of course, you might just send him out of control and make him wipe out. It's a fun trick when it works though.
Not that I've ever done that or anything--ah, misspent youth...

According to the Flying Hawaiian ...
Back in the early days of Pro MX in the States, if you were on his 3 John Desoto would downshort your bike for you, when on his 9 he made sure your rear brake was working. There is some discussion that John Desoto introduced bar banging to the sport.

I hate it when people assume they can share the lane with you. I had some kid on a sportbike a while back hangout outside of my mirrors envelope on the right side in light urban traffic. Can't say I cared for it too much.

Normal in Europe
This summer in Europe, the pavement was shared by everyone. There is no "my lane". If you are are in a car, you move to the outside of the lanes and let the bikes have the center. It is only common sense to give up what you are not using. Maybe you guys should think like bikers and not like drivers.
"I won't share my lane"---indeed. Think about this boys. Too much road rage out there. Two lane roads in England have room for 2 cars and 2 bikes across. In Italy, the cars used 2/3 of the road when sharing with bikes simply because there was room and they could. There was no road rage there. Curtis
