but why is all the rum gone?
Thanks. This report is perfect. I have a '03 Dakar that I am hoping to make the trip to Alaska. Anything you would have changed on the bike or recommending prepping first?

the TT low front fender.
without it the spray at about 70km/h hits me right in the face. As best I can tell the splash comes from around the sides of the bike and up without the fender. We ran MEFO 99's which worked well but flip the front tire to run backwards. I would probably use Kenda 270's the next time, sacrifice some of the good road manners for better wear and wet gravel/dirt road ability. Read Pierre Burton's Klondike. Gives some great history and a neat feel for the trip. Be sure not to miss the Dempster Highway and Top of the World highway.

Thanks....I will check out the book and the other mods. I hesitated on the low fender as previous bikes always seemed to get caked w/ mud and cause more problems than it was worth.

for heavy mud I would agree. For the spray and more liquidy mud that you tend to find on maintained gravel roads it keeps the rad from packing up and overheating the bike as well as keeping the face shield clear.
