Not exactly the sky, and arguably weather, but..

Here's the South Rim of the Grand Canyon filled with smoke from wildfires last summer. Visibility was down to ~8 miles, where it's usually well over 120 miles.

Solo Northern Nevada - doesn't look too bad. Rain, hail and snow for 30 miles through an Indian reservation over those mountains.

Poked out the other side - completely soaked and freezing (all my gear sucked) but the sun was shining and I only had another 25 miles to get to a hot spring.

I had just traveled 11,000 miles, and I was still getting used to the fact that it would turn dark at night in the southern latitudes.
I had been to New Mexico so many times in the summer, yet the monsoon still took me by surprise.
I stopped in Cuba to make a connection, just after taking this rare ( for me)
photo while cruising.
I walked out of the store and the night was blacker than black and the wind was really blowing.I know I just escaped a deluge.
the thing is,I thought I was going to try a shortcut through the James Mtns. that afternoon to save time.I was informed by a local that it is even hairy in the daytime, and no time saver.
next time

Just back from Prudhoe Bay, IMO it was really worth the trip, AK is a beautiful place & you need lots of time to take it all in. I'm looking forward to returning & exploring some places i didn't have time to ride.RIP Ron Melton
