Thunder Rally Report

Got to ride my new toy off road this weekend. A bit different to the DR650.

A lap around Kerry Packers place was called for with a stop at the Thunder rally site.

My mate Rod and i were joined by Brad and Stuart and the countryside was a picture with enough water in the creeks to make it interesting. In the first 50 meters off road i smashed my sidestand cutout switch. I joined the bare wires together and off again. One stick was all it took, just bad luck. On the same bit of track a few years ago my mate had his water hose split by a stick on his transalp

First opinions of the KTM are that it needs a set of knobbies....wheelspin was a real issue but a lot of fun. It must have been hooking up a little because Brad dumped his WR250 trying to get around the outside not far from the campgrounds. No harm done and it was tops watching it all happen (it's true everything does go into slow motion when someone else is crashing) Lots of snakes out and about and a lot of wallabies close to nundle.

Great to meet a few advriders - great rally

HM - thanks for letting me follow you and Stuart and hope I didn't slow you up too much. And the ride back wasn't totally incident free....

Did the old Pac Hwy, heaps of leaves and branches all over the road. I was getting blown across half a lane on the freeway

That sorta looks like my Transalp just off the Gundy road on the way to the rally...
The panniers saved a bit of damage--just a few scratches on the lhs fairing.
Went over at zero kmh--rocks,mud,damp grass near the river, and couldn't get my footing while turning around to get back up to the road--dopey twat...
Still,the rally was tops.
