that is very nasty, and not very confidence inspiring . Glad to hear you were not hurt.

I had couple problems with the bike (when still under warranty) but no help from BMW ... hope is not your case

Here is a link to my own website where I've documented it all and sent it to BMW to look at:

Snooker's broken BMW G650X Swingarm

Now BMW has offered to cover only part of the repair costs mainly because it is 5 months out of warranty. This is all described in detail in the XCountry thread here.

If this could happen on an XCountry with a Wilbers shock, on mild trails, who's to say it couldn't happen on an XChallenge? Sure it is an isolated incident, but why won't BMW just cover this safety issue, I mean a broken swingarm! that should never happen, and I have not ridden this bike hard.

CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH BMW?

I think Simon Pavey snapped the swing arm exactly the same as you in the Dakar

Tell us how much air did you really get

I have been trying to find the thread where someone else broke a swingarm, do you know where it is?

I think it was the main frame, near the left foot peg mount, he hit a rock and the cast snapped

Bingo, that is exactly what I was thinking of, see my post above, posted before I saw yours on the new page.

Might also be thinking of TBarstow's broken frame.

I know little of the bmw, but this could be a shock problem and have little to do with the swingarm. Something has to give if the shock doesn't.

If that is true I'd love to hear about it, as nobody seems to think this has ever happened.

No air, click on my link above to the website, you can see the little dip in the road that caused this.

Wow I just looked at the detail photos!
A cast swingarm?
My sons Cheep Cheep Piece of sheit, China built, 50cc put-put bike has a better engineered component than that....Whaoooaa Glad it didn't happen at speed, or heaven forbid a freeway with a bunch of cages behind you... I am positive that when this event gets to the right suit in the BMW tower you will be made good again GOOD LUCK....

Xcountry swing arm breakage

I'm sad to see BMW isn't just stepping up but keep bugging them through SJ BMW.

Now that being said my take on why it broke and I have no supporting evidence just my take on it. I think it has to do with some sort shock failure like it got hot and hydro locked. The shock not compressing correctly caused the swing arm to fail.

I'm pretty sure a competitor in the 2009 Australasian Safari snapped his swingarm.
