As long as we're shamelessly pointing...

Also in Flea Market--I'm looking to swap a stock seat and painted parts from an 09 X-Country. Cheers!

Swingarm snapped in half!

While on a simple graded dirt road in the LA to Barstow to Vegas dual sport ride, an AMA sanctioned and BMW sponsored event, the swingarm snapped in half on my XCountry. I took the easy route, not the hard route. This bike has only been offroad about 10 days in its life, and only has about 6000 miles on it.

Here is a link to my own website where I've documented it all and sent it to BMW to look at:

Snooker's broken BMW G650X Swingarm

Now BMW has offered to cover only part of the repair costs mainly because it is 5 months out of warranty. This is all described in detail in the XCountry thread here.

If this could happen on an XCountry with a Wilbers shock, on mild trails, who's to say it couldn't happen on an XChallenge? Sure it is an isolated incident, but why won't BMW just cover this safety issue, I mean a broken swingarm! that should never happen, and I have not ridden this bike hard.

CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH BMW?

I would think BMW would say,

"Wow, sorry this happened, here is a new swingarm, can we put that on for you, oh, don't put this on the internet, it never happened have a nice day!"

Glad you were not hurt. Good luck with the whole deal.

that is very nasty, and not very confidence inspiring . Glad to hear you were not hurt.

I had couple problems with the bike (when still under warranty) but no help from BMW ... hope is not your case

I think Simon Pavey snapped the swing arm exactly the same as you in the Dakar

Tell us how much air did you really get

I have been trying to find the thread where someone else broke a swingarm, do you know where it is?

I think it was the main frame, near the left foot peg mount, he hit a rock and the cast snapped

Bingo, that is exactly what I was thinking of, see my post above, posted before I saw yours on the new page.

Might also be thinking of TBarstow's broken frame.

I know little of the bmw, but this could be a shock problem and have little to do with the swingarm. Something has to give if the shock doesn't.

If that is true I'd love to hear about it, as nobody seems to think this has ever happened.

No air, click on my link above to the website, you can see the little dip in the road that caused this.
