My girl lives in central MO, and now I have these dreams of screaming around mudfields in MO on a hack with her barely hanging on for dear life.

Tonight for the first time I drove the thing on the freeway to get home. It was great.

Now I wish I had balanced the wheels after putting the knobbies on.

Leaving for Death Valley on Thursday!
So how about an update....how's the last 11 months been with your Ural????

Let's see...~4,200 miles, a bunch of tires, 4 oils changes, & hours of grins.

I am still in love with that rig. The kids still like to go. The thing runs just peachy. Haven't really done anything else to it in terms of goodies. The best mod has been getting away for the RPOC tires & putting the Heidenau knobs on it.

Actually the whole sidecar scene is fun. I bought RedRocket's FJ rig in July for highway stuff. Something about a rig that will go over a buck.

I suppose the only real draw back of sidecars is how much room they take up. I could 4 bikes in the space that the 2 rigs use up. Oh, and gas mileage. Never over 30mpg.

Otherwise, if I got to do it over again, I'd do it in a minute.

Howdy Skylab,

We are almost neighbors, we should get together some day and get that new rig dirty.

Gear up

Hi Mr Cob

U bet, but you will need to take me under your wing or fender and show me
how to ride it. I took the written test at DOL and they sprinkled me with Holy
Water so I can practice. I am also signed up for the Evergreen course in Jan.
One question I have for the group is: I am average size 6’6’’ so will I need to
do any mods so I will fit on it?

Howdy Skylab,

Damn, you are a bigun First off I would highly recommend a bench seat, get the flat, pleated topped one not the stepped one, much better off road and you will be able to sit back further then on the stock solo seat. The new rigs come with standard size ( 7/8" ) diameter handle bars so changing them out to a different handle bar will also give you some room to stretch your arms a bit.

If you choose to keep the solo seat, it can be raised and moved back. I raised mine with 1" square steel tubing, and moved it back, simply by drilling another pair of rear mounting holes, and using the original rears, for the fronts.

But the hole and/or material size for raising the seat are infinite. However, when moving the seat back, plan on loosing the passenger seat. I replaced mine with a luggage rack.

Oh, yeah....I also chose to double up the spring rubbers under the driver seat, by pirating the 2nd rubber from the no longer used passenger seat.

No doubt as a response to "Wow, do you play basketball?"

You get the woodland camo or the radioactive pumpkin GU?
