Looking great

I like what you did with the seat, I need to do something similar to mine. Did you replace the entire foam section or add another layer to the top of the stock stuff?

Thanks,

Josh

The foam came from the local fabric store. Its a dense foam used for seat cushions.
I took that and the exisiting seat foam...sprayed them both with adhesive and got a good bond. Then I just trimmed off the new foam to match the seat.
The difference is night and day, I have not had any saddle sore yet

The seat really does not sit much higher, but for me having long legs it still helps. That combined with the bar risers make for a comfortable ride.

Nice ride report BTW!

Awsome, I might have to look around for some of that dense foam myself. I'm not worried about adding height, in fact I'd like to (I'm used to MX bikes that are a good bit taller) add a bit of seat height to make for a bit less of a bend in my knees.

Thumb

Long time lurker and now finally joined so I can chime in on some of this fun stuff.

Several months ago, I decided to look for a DR650 to join my Weestrom in the garage. After searching for what seemed like forever and only finding old worn out bikes or ones with top dollar prices I was about to give up on an inexpensive dual sport. Just then, I stumbled upon a '97 DR350SE with low miles and a brand new set of tires for really cheap. Seems that an older guy bought one for his married daughter to ride with him, but unfortunately he passed away, so the bike was pushed into the garage and hadn't been riden in the past 2 years. Price was low so I bought it and took it home. Needless to say it really didn't run too well. Carb was gummed up and the gas was old.

I decided to tear the bike down short of removing the engine from the frame and clean, lube and replace as required as much a I could. It was actually kinda fun doing all the work and witnessing the change in the bike. Here is what I did:
  1. Kientech carb (new main jet, needle and idle screw) and muffler mod, absolutely the best $100 spent on the bike!!!
  2. Opened up the airbox and new filter to go with 1
  3. 14T countershaft sprocket
  4. EBC brake pads and flushed the brake system
  5. Pro Taper bars with Tag grips
  6. Acerbis ralley guards
  7. Seat recovered in black Carbon FX by Sargent (they did a great job and price was good, about $100)
  8. Sandblasted the muffler after Kientch did the mod and painted it with high temp stove paint-black
  9. Rebuilt the forks with 15wt oil and new black boots
  10. Removed the stickers from the side plates and cleaned all the plastic
  11. Luggage rack from the guy in Ohio (Brian S) who mods the stock fender support - nice work...
  12. Cleaned and lubed everything that moved including the cables
It is now back on the road and running great. The carb and muffler mod are a must do, the bike repsonds much quicker and smoother to throttle inputs and muffler is still civilized. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! I bet the DR250 will benefit from this also.

Not sure how to post pics yet, but if I figure it out I'll post before and after pics.

Must go out tomorrow for a little shakedown ride......

Clarke tank
RMX swingarm and RM 125 forks...soon to be installed.

My DR is more fun than my FZ.

Picked this pup up about a month ago. Received airbox mod, FMF Power Core IV, and previous owner followed Jesse"s instrctions and had it jetted spot on. Noise is a bit too high so I have the OEM exhaust piece on the way to Jesse for rework.

Nothing like that 6spd trans to expand the flexiblity of the machine. So far I prefer this bike to my F650GSD in being over 100 lbs lighter, and lower tech with less to go wrong and easier to service. Just need to add a larger tank to extend the range.

Any other DR riders here in SE Michigan?

My old DR350

Me and My DR350 on our recent Copper Canyon adventure.
Mods? 2 inches lower for my short a$$ legs. Pink handlebars. Silly welded rear rack for last minute tailbagging. That's about it.

This bike will take me anywhere!!!

I picked up my 93 DR350S almost 2 years ago. $800. Stock as stock could be.

With a whopping 2500 miles!

It needed help in a few areas, so it got the following:

Clarke 4.2 gal tank
Pingle petcock
Eibach springs front and rear
Kouba links
Jet kit and Jesse modified muffler

Still needs:
Some newer and smaller front and rear fenders
Pumper carb if I can find one

It's a really fine older DS bike. Cheap, reliable, crashes into trees and other riders quite well!

Cool2 new to dr 350's - from new zealand

hi - here's my '99 dirt model - 'kicker' with the pumper carb - completley stock from what i can tell - travelled 11,000kms. Rode it home from a town some 400km from where i live. Have ridden it in a forest near my home and had lots of fun. A lot easier to ride than my 1150GS which I find is a great gravel road bike but a handful in tight off road stuff. Cheers Aslan
