Links to the Best of the ADV Ride Reports forum

So you want to spend some more of your boss' hard-earned money reading ride reports on teh intarweb, eh? Well, you've come to the right forum, that's for sure.

This work-in-progress hopes to catalog some of the finest report examples here at ADV. As it grows, check back often to nominate things that you've enjoyed or browse one or two that you might have missed the first time around.

The most important thing to remember, is that any ride report takes a lot of effort to write. Much more than it does to read. If a report gives you a smile, a chuckle, a grimace, or just a few minutes "away" from your own personal cubicle-hell, PLEASE give props to the poster (in their respective thread). If you don't want to add an actual comment on to the thread, posting something as simple as a or or can make the original poster feel like all that effort was appreciated and worthwhile. THANKS!

New additions will be entered at the top of their respective categories.

You wont' find these on Oprah's reading list. This first category isn't so much for hall of fame reports, rather for general good stuff in current circulation. A sort of Reader's Digest for the forum, if you will.

Some Thoughts to consider....

Pack, you need to get out for a ride.... Isn't the new KTM runnning, or have you discovered that children start demanding more time and attention as they get older (or maybe its just me and my wife expects me to watch the kids more so she can go out)?

I do think it is a cool concept, however you need one more category - "longest time to complete a ride report" so you have a chance of winnning with your trip to Cal.... (sorry, just kidding, I loved the report BTW)

What we really need is to do is first agree on a category system, and then have the WebMaster set up a report rating system (instead of the current "Star" system) that allows readers to nominate a story for a category and then give it a numeric score from 1 to 10.

At the end of each year we can get an automated report on who wins each category (most points and most views or something like that) with an obvious rebuttal and comment thread in Jo Mamma so we can bitch about eachother some more....

We could also have a new forum category - "The Hall of Fame" so we can easily drill down to the best reports in each category by filtering for "top 10" for example.

I do want to point out one small flaw in your categories, since we have ADV riders from all over the world, what someone in one location might think of as Exotic may just be an everyday ride for others. To qualify this, it would really have to include how far removed the rider (Adventurer) was from his/her home camp. Heck, if I could get my bike out to Colorado, I'd call that an exotic ride for me.

Carry on.....

Heh. Thanks. The Boy in Wonderland report will be heading to the Blue Balls category. Along with a bunch of Ant Ware's stuff.

Well, the basic flaw is that I'm administrating this thing. That's why it's called the PackHall of FameMule (not to be confused with Fanuiel Hall, in Boston) after all. It's going to be colored with my views, no doubt.

My definition of exotic will become the category's definition as it grows.

Now to add some links...

Just so no one is confused, we're looking for great reports... If you post a pic, please link to the Great Report that it came from...

(There are a few links in the categories now. I'll add more as I can get to my orginal list, then more still as they're nominated/created)
