xrmattaz just got a very sweet Sofa King and I've noticed quite a few ADVriders talk about bikes, training, races, etc.
So what do you ride? I ride a Santa Cruz Heckler (mt. bike). I'm a little too big for the Super Lite. I won't get into all of the components on the bike but it's got a lot. I also have an old Trek 1000 road bike that I use for cross training.

I actually spend a lot of time on my bike... I go back and forth between:
Gary Fischer Sugar 1 (mtn) Eddy Merckx (Cyclocross) Sasla (Cyclocross) Mondonico 70th Anni (Road) Spot (Single Speed Mtn) Bianchi Pista (track) I've been working too much lately... not enough time to ride. |

Rivendell LongLow. Lugged steel frame, Brooks saddle, canti brakes, moustache bars with cross-weave tape, 700c wheels and nice wide 28 tires.
Oh yeah, bar-end friction shifters and a six-speed cluster. Can you say "retro"?

I usually keep one road and one mountain bike around:
Kestrel200SCi - Velvet smooth road ride, but twitchy for my taste at big downhill speed. Klein Mantra - Old boing-boing design. Nuthin' fancy but it's reliable, looks good, and just plain works. |

love those bikes
I used to build them for my nine to five.
Funny too, the ones I ride were made by other people. The skinny tired one is a Spezzotto, long toptube heavyish columbus tubes, campi ergo, 28c contis. Unbreakable, it does stuff like railroad grade on Mt Tam with authority. My dirt bike was a prototype for the giant cross country rig. It was made by a french guy named pascal, he does race car stuff. An old friend in the biz sent it to me so I could 'properly dispose of it'. Nice bike, the serial number was hand carved in the bottombracket shell with a burr, it's #5. Disc brakes and squishy plushness everywhere. The thing rips. I still have one of my own bikes too, 26" wheels, steel, lots of clearance, fillet brazed, it's got a set of custom horizontal dropouts I made out of old campi touring dropouts just months before quality bike supply started offering the sub 11 line of frame parts and track components. They look just like them, but they are longer and are fabricated instead of cast. I set that one up as a multispeed bike at first, but have a cool set of hammered aluminum fenders and some wheels that I'm gonna throw at it and make a single speed town bike out if it this spring. Got some cool old french running lights for it too. Should be cool.

Real Bikes
Davidson Impulse- Campy Chorus. Way too light for my weight
Bruce Gordon Rock and Road-hand built by the grand asshole himself Look Carbon KG 281 frame & fork I received the first two as demos when I worked in the bike business. The frame was given to me by a friend who imports them. I should be getting a parts group shortly. I need to ride. My next bike will be a custom Steelman road frame with clearance for cyclocross knobbies and a slightly taller bottom bracket. A kind of GS of bicycles. Cheers, Jorge

Verve, custom built with long top tube, short seat tub and relaxed head and seat tube angles.
XT disc brakes, no bossed for rear canti's, a set of hand built 700c wheels for road and some cross 4 36 spoke heavy duty wheels for the off-road stuff. Have not ridden it since I got my first motorcyle. Such a shame. |
