GWN Winter Riding Photo Gallery- 2006/2007

Yea, anyone can ride in the GWN in the summer...but, the real fun begins in the winter....Post your winter riding pics here...that includes our neighbors in the Yukon and BC.

Had a FAB day today riding with Beezer and AKDUCKLR. It warmed up quite a bit....have some great video to post later but here are a few pics from today.

From the sunny beach of Knik river...

AKDUC leading the charge down Turnagain on a spectacular day...

We wanted to try out the studs and see what we could do...Mark was the champ...the wee was too heavy for the slippery grass and angle. {did you catch the rider shared no brundt of the blame...LOL}

I only made about a third of the way up and turned around...

A fine finish to the day...

Stay tuned for video....

I was busy most of the day, but managed to get out for a quick spin.

just a short run, enough to get used to the trackmasters again (wobblin goblin!)

Tomorrow isn't looking so hot riding wise, if it happens, well, I lookfor you kids out on the road.

Looks like there wasn't enough snow to test the studs, but how did the TKC80 feel with the studs in it.? Did you even notice them on the dry highway?
Didn't get near the distance you did today, but spent a larger percentage of it riding on snow I bet. 5 was right, it's better than I expected it to be. With the studded Gripster up front, I was able to grab a lot of brake from a walking pace and come to an instant stop. This was on icy snowpack that my Sidi On-Roads were slipping badly on.
The rutted and ridged parking lots gave the tires the best test, and they moved sideways a little some times. But as soon as I stood up on the pegs I didn't even notice it.
Not quite ready for a ride to Los Anchorage, but gimme a few more days to get used to it and get any bugs out... What say pie and coffee at Eureka next Saturday?
There's a chance I'll ride in to Los Anchorage Nov. 2nd (if my shopping list is small enough). Hate to have to rub it in that I was the first one over the pass this winter.

Hmmm, interesting new screen name. But you know I AM still very much Ducatisti thank you.

I'm glad I ran into you guys today. That was a lot of fun! Good thing The MC Shop advertised their "get together."

I didn't know I make that bike look so little!

Trick photography. Robert did that to explain why you were able to get up the hill farther than he did. You'll notice that his bike looks huge compared to your KLR.

Ok....I'm in....that is your subtle way of challenging me to a dual Jack? Gettin' even for that Denali Highway prod?

SIGN ME UP....as long as it is not a blizzard, I am in for pie at the Eureka Lodge next saturday at 2pm? Let's try Bellinger Pass after pie?

HELL YA!

Uhh... Bellanger Pass? Sure, why not. But I may be too full of pie and coffee after Eureka and... uhh, my bike may be too heavy for the slippery grass and angle.

Nice touch... "the low spark of 13mm carbide tipped studs".

There's a guy in one of the other threads looking for winter shots for the cover of the JC Whitney m/c cat that I bet would enjoy this vid.

Not to sound like an ass lick but I sure like the way the local riding group has such a varied set of talents and shares them. A couple of examples:

Professional videography for one and another is the mechanical skill required to build a fully suspended sidehack from scratch... just out of stuff laying around the garage. A third? One of these guys knows what the complete noob's greatest kayak adventure might be. One of these days I'd like to find out... and then do it.
