I'm in New Brunswick Canada, plenty 'o' trails around here and plenty 'o' dirt. The pic's from a nice railroad trail that goes by my house. Its my first bike and I feel like a kid. Can't wait to have it geared up for camping. For now I'll be using backpacks.
Thanks for the welcome

my situation is very similar.

Got a xt225 about 6 months ago, my first DS bike.

Love it.

needs a bit stiffer rear spring, I can bottom it pretty easily, but i love it just the same.

been backpacking for YEARs, got the gear, in the process of buying 'riding' gear, and head into the woods, the timing is perfect here, starting to cool off.

I also drive the bike to work most days, that is, when people in honda civics arent trying to run me over.

Does anyone have the 225 and the 250? I need a nice close up shot of both bikes from the foot pegs back.. We're going to get an xt250 I think but we want to put hard luggage on it.. I'm trying to get an idea of how hard it would be to modify the happy trail rack for the 225 to fit the 250.

I think there are some people on XT225.com that have both.

Are you looking to modify the tail rack or side racks? I have the side racks on my 225 and can take photos for you after work tonight.

We would try to modify the side racks.. I don't think it'd be too difficult so long as atleast 2 of hte 6 mounting points line up between the 2 bikes.. atleast that would give you a nice solid place to start the mods anyway.. I think the biggest issue is the way the exhaust is mounted on the 250 vs. the 225

I have a problem. I trailered my XT225 cross country a couple of weeks ago, and a bicycle's steel bolt worried a divot in the right front fork close to the axle. Nothing's leaking, but the divot is about 3/8" deep at the deepest. I was thinking of cleaning the divot with some acetone and putting JB weld and a hose clamp or two around it. Anyone have any brighter ideas on how to support the divot?

Mod: you can move this to the garage if you think it's better there.

Here it is

JB weld is the planned repair at this point, unless someone talks me out of it.

I no longer have an XT but it was my first and still my most loved bike.
It was such a cool bike, it leaked both oil and gas but never died. It always started on the first kick and people loved it. I got so many thumbs up from strangers it was crazy. It seemed every time I came out of a store somebody I didn't know would be sitting on the seat. I've had 3 more DS bikes since then and have not even had a second look from your average person passing by. There was something about that bike that people seemed to love.

Anyone know any reason that this wouldn't be street-able in NYS?

I just ordered the turbocity.com "borrego" luggage rack for my wife's XT225. Looks like it should work out just fine. I hope to get it soon.
