Ever since I washed my bike last weekend, it's been pissing rusty water out of the left side by the bolt that goes in right behind the rider's peg. I've got one rusty stain in the driveway, and two in the garage. I tip it over on the sidestand, and out comes a gush of rusty water. What's up with that? Monday, it spewed all over the alloy footpeg plate and left centerstand leg. Even splashed some up on the fairing lower. Tonight I have an orange puddle by the centerstand leg.
I knew I shouldn't have washed it

Rust!
What is there that could possible rust near the rear footrest? I had a look on my bike and there is really not too much ferrous material near the rear footpeg.
Maybe it's time for the WD40 after washing.

Must be that Jet-Hot exhaust coating you put on! Check your engine - sounds to me like the exhaust is reaching temps in excess of 3K deg F. turning your aluminum into rusty aluminum-oxide!

1. I didn't have the footpeg plate coated. 2. Aluminum oxide is white. |

Herr Rustyfischmeister..............
The centre stand has endcaps welded on the the open end of the hollow tubes. Yours do not seem to be watertight & therefore the centrestand tube is filling with water making the unprotected metal inside rust & issue forth over your nice clean driveway/garage. A dab of weld might cure it, or some manky old chewing gum?

I also removed the footpeg bolt where the rust was dribbling out of and saw zero evidence of rust. Not on the bolt or washer or what it screwed into. Totally a mystery at this point. I did, however, find my airbox drainplug, so crawling around on the cathair encrusted floor paid off a little. |

Any chance you still have a catalytic converter? I assume this is your RT or I'd ask if you'd done any river crossings lately. Pretty bizarre, Fish.

Fish-
I've seen my Remus drip water from the spot where the header joins the exhaust can. It didn't seem to be related to washing the bike or wet weather. I thought (and still think) it was condensation. I haen't seen it since I started parking my bike in a garage about a month ago.

I'll try to take some macro shots tonight, but lighting kinda sucks, and I've had a few , so I'm not sure how well they'll come out.I'll bet theres some cold-rolled steel thing somewhere under the sidepanel that traps water and rusts like a Walmart rosebush. |

Pissing Rust
My wife sends this message: Are you sure the rust is not coming from your rear hub? This cavity fills with water when you wash the bike and the rear hub is cast iron.
Wheel-cap needed!
