Was looking at the 310. Coincidently, I just found out an old friend just picked one up. So I'm going over to try it out.

The 510 just fits into what I'm willing to spend and availability for a bike with low hrs/ miles. By no means would I consider myself skilled and fast. It's been a while but I think I'll pick it back up somewhat quickly, I have an exploring itch that needs to be scratched.

I appreciate the feedback dirtmongrel, guess I should remain patient. I'm just all googled out from searching for my future stead. It's beautiful out and I want to RIDE

$4500 seems a bit high in my recent experience for the mileage/hours. For a low mile well maintained and lightly farkled 06/07 TE450/510 bike I would expect to find them in the $3500 (3K miles 06) to $4500 (300 miles 07). In the last 7 months I have bought 2 TE450s used (hence the above figures), one about 2 months ago. Each required a good bit of waiting and watching for the right deal (nationwide search).

So far the miles on that one, unless it is in primo condition, very well farkled, suspension tuned, or something compensating the miles/age/hours. I would look expect closer to $4000. That said, $4500 is not far off and good ones do not come up all that often, especially when you want one to. If you can watch the market for a while you can snag some great used deals if you are fast.

The 510 and 450 can be a handful on tight stuff, but stiill quite good. On trails, not racing, you only get to use the lower half of the throttle, not a very linear throttle resonse either (fixable with G2 throttle cams), more like coast or blast off. For comparison the TTR250 and DRZ400 have a more linear tame response. I find they are easier to ride on the trails, but less fun in the fast stuff like desert and dirt roads. If you are heavier you will appreciate the power more on and off the trails. My son and I are both 6' 1" and 190-230lbs and these are a good fit for us.

I prefer my TE610 for moderate single track and roads of any description over my low geared, close ratio trannny TE450. TE510 is nearly the same as the 450.

I think i have to re-evaluate my uses of the bike. Trails is what i'm after, but being in Jersey I have to travel some decent distances to find any good stuff.

Resurrected again!
Looking at an 07' TE510 w/1k miles. Aftermarket exhaust, led signals re sprung for my weight.
KBB has it trade in $2600ish and retail $3800ish.
I'm thinking $3k at most.
1st owner did the mods and all dirt. This owner all street.
Looked it over, started right up cold and runs just fine.
2nd owner sounds like he didn't ride it much and knows very little about the changes to the bike.
One thing I noticed was the chain guide at the swing arm was a single brace, not a full block. Holes are there.
What's up with that?
