Thumb Baehr Ultima XL Intercom

Comments: Crystal-clear communications for rider-to-rider and rider-to-passenger (pillion). Baehr has various models with capabilities ranging from basic bike-to-bike or rider to passenger communications, to options for interface attachments, mobile phones, MP3 or CD players, radios, talking GPS and more

Anyone ever use this set up and how much does it cost. It sounds like it may be better than Autocom but price may be deciding factor.

It's very expensive. The model in the subject line, Ultima XL, sells for $1,088 + shipping at today's exchange rate.

Price list here.
Couple of user opinions at the F650 FAQ.

A few other blurbs turn up via google. Seems really nice stuff, but well overpriced, imho.

I forgot the the US dollar is almost down the drain. Never mind you are now back with the rest of the world. I was told some time ago that the rider is the cheap part of the bike!!!

I have the Baehr system and it works great.

Why do you say it is over priced??? When the there is no other system that can come close.

Pissed Baehr

What do you all want the Ultima XL for the only thing it has that is is better is that it is sterio.
I have the Verso XL model on my BmwR11gs (fantastic) and it only costs $1,347.00 (new zealand).

After having this system i would never ride again with out music/communication.

What makes this system unique is that it has a electronic activated michrophone.(this means that you can not hear your self talk or hear wind or traffic noise through the system. All other systems have a passive system.
What is also so good about it is that every sound control is pre set by you on the system (you can adjust your indivudal settings on the system)

It is a extremely easy system to fit and has a 2 year full warrinty while being made in a waterproof casing.

A magic Product.

I am available to assist fitting any system in Brisbane.

I say it's overpriced because other products perform the exact same tasks for far less money. Ever heard of Autocom? Its microphones are voice activated, it has as many inputs, etc, etc. Have a look. Yes, I've had a couple of their headsets go bad, but that's been over the course of six years worth of heavy usage, on three different motorcycles. And my dealer swapped the parts out for no charge.

Hey guys, relax. No one's dissing Baehr products here. Hell, before this thread I'd heard the name mentioned just a time or two. It's just not real popular here in the States yet. Looks nice though, and as wildething pointed out, the Versa model does pretty much everything that most of us need from an intercom. If I decide to replace mine, this is what I'll be looking at.

Sure would be nice to see the stuff in person. Anybody in Texas using a Baehr system?

yeah well

the difference between a Baehr system and Autocom system

closet comparison would be a two way radio and two cans and a peice of string

the Baehr system is the best

bit like comparing a BMW against a Ural

Wow.
Thanks for the in depth product comparison.
Formerly satisfied Autocomers everywhere are now yanking wires.

Baehr is now just coming to the US

Arch -

Baehr is now just coming to the US being distributed by National Cycle. I'm doing some testing for them. Drop me a line offline with your specific questions and I'll see what I can do to help you see the differences (significant) between the products.

Regards,

David H. Park

Lets clear up some facts.

Autocom just like Baehr has a electrified microphone, the correct term is "electret" microphone.

Sound qualitiy is excellend on both units, you just pay half for a comprable featured Autocom. Baehr downplays features like VOX because the aren't advanced enough to develop a VOX that is instant like an Autocom system.

It is obvious that Steve from NZ works for Baehr because I have never seen somebody as fanatical for an overpriced piece of junk if he didn't get a paycheck! Trust me, I have used both units. The Baehr is very very nice. But it's no better than a top of the line Pro M1, costs twice as much and takes up twice the space as an autocom system! I will pay anything for the best. But I will not spend money for no benefit. Thats what will happen if you buy a Beahr! But then again BMW riders are accustomed to paying too much for sub standard performance... Must be something about products made in Germany!

I have no experience with Baer, only read numerous glowing reports. I have however a 3 year experience with AutoCom and it sucks and now rarely use it.
I am giving serious consideration to switching, but cannot right now.
