ABC - Australia, not ABC in the states.

When you get up the gumption to get BMW, Touratech and the rest to sponser you, do the training and then go do it then you can call him a whiner. But I too think he is somewhat of a British weeny(wanker), I think he even thinks so a lot of the time. But I did like the LWR and will watch Race to Dakar.

My wife brought the book back from London, I liked it a lot better than the LWR book.

I'd certainly be a sissy, a whiner, a brat knowing full well that through it all if I didn't suceed I'd never get another bike, book/movie/tv deal, support vehicle, training...

Ya know? The whole, "You'll never work in this town again!" treatment.

I'm interested to watch the ABC screening on Thursday this week in Sydney, mainly because I've just had a thought...how much sand / sand dune riding did Charley practice on and in before the Dakar started?

I've got a couple of mates on a UK bike forum who wanted to ride in Morroco and do sand/ dune riding.

So they took an overnight ferry from the UK and arrived in Spain sometime the next day. Then rode thru Spain and took another ferry over to Moroc and not too long after that they were blasting across the desert.

I suddenly realised that Charley obviously had the oppotunity to spend a week (a month) or however long he felt was needed, riding sand dunes and desert hour after hour to get a real idea of what the Dakar would be like.

If you want to spend days in the saddle of a bike, blasting across the open desert then obviously the way to practice is: to spend hours every day blasting across the open desert.

I know that sounds like an oversimplication but it's true when you think about it.
The only way to become proficent at something is to do it, and keep doing it until you get good at it.
So I'm kind of curious as to how much desert riding Charley partook of before the race started?

The website doesn't have any dates or information when Race to Dakar will be shown in the States. However, Chuck will be at the Toronto Motorcycle Show (Dec 8-10, '06) to sign books.

Finished watching last night. Wow.

If this aired on TV here there's going to be an awful lot of bleeping out bits.

Could he pick his nose more on-camera?

Entertaining. The show, not the nose-picking parts...

After watching "Dust to Glory" about 10 times, Boorman looks more like he belongs with the Starbucks crowd.[/QUOTE]

I watched Dust to Glory on DVD ( thank god I didn't spend money to see it in the theaters) and thought the production was awful. I promptly gave the DVD away at first chance. However, the LWR production was excellent and I look forward to seeing my 10 episode version again in doldrums of the NW winter... Just like the bikes themselves, TV productions either win ya over or loose ya soon.. That's what keeps it all interesting!

For those of us who have done the Baja, it brought back a lot of memories.
In my opinion, Dust to Glory does a good job of capturing the Baja essence, especially the people and the struggle.
If all you want is racing footage I would suggest you come down and watch, if you haven't already.

I bought the DVD but it is in PAL format, so I can only watch it on my PC. It is pretty good, I won't be doing Dakar just the prep would kill me, but it is fun to watch. I think it is better than LWR, not so much of Obi Whine Kanobi. Almost anyone could do LWR with enough money and support, but not Dakar.
