Single track ADV group ride at Alcalda NM in Dec?

Would any of you guys be up for a Day or Multi-day group ride in the Alcalda area. The Alcalda area is a BLM holding about 6 miles north of Espanola, NM. The area is shared with all types of off road riders. There are two races held in the area each year. One a more open desert race. And up until this past year a very tight single track Enduro race. Some of the Enduro trails have been taken over by ATV guys. But there are still some good loops left. Along with that there are many miles of old trails in the area.

The site is great for camping. It's close enough to town.
December mornings are always a little cool. But temps are in the mid 40 during the day.

The riding train is sand washes, Gravel foot hills and some clay. All skill levels can ride here. Some are just faster than others. I’ve seen just about every type of DS bike used in this area. I had my 950 down here. But the trails for it were limited to less than 50 miles.

PS. I may have sold my dirt bike by then. But I can always stay in camp cook brots and drink beer.

We could be up for that.

Depends on how the snow is in Taos at that time.

Ski until noon. Then beat feet down and ride with us.

The idea is to have some of our friends from New Mexico and neighboring states come down and test the sands with us.

This area is a great place to ride. This could make for a very fun time.

I want in on that and hopefully others from the Springs and Denver area would want to all ride down together. Maybe head down Friday after work and head back Sunday after breakfast or lunch. Just let me know when.

Lets let a few more people chime in before we pick a hard date.

I would say that sometime between 11-30-06 and 12-16-06 would be fine.

Other dates may work as well.

I'll be in Texas the first weekend in Dec. But the rest looks good for me anyway.

Tim,
that sounds cool. A couple Boulder riders do a Dec. ride in Moab. I'll run it past them and maybe come to NM instead. The Second week in Dec. would probably work. I'll get back to you.

I'd be up for that too, especially if someone is looking at trailering/trucking down and I could throw my XR on. It will be plated by then, but I doubt I'd enjoy riding it down, unless I have company....

I have friends down in Santa Fe that I visit a lot, and am pretty familiar with all the roads around Espanola.....but would love to do a little exploring - it's a great area.
Most any time could probably suit me, could take a whole or part Fri or Mon off to accomodate.
I'm down in Parker, maybe 6 miles from I-25 (west of hwy 83)

Thanks for the great response.

LoriKTMs husban Dave (we need to get that guy a ADV name) knows the trails as good as anyone. He's very quick. Dave would make a great trail lead for atleast one of the loops.

maps?

Hey Hair (or anyone else)-- Do you know of any trail maps of that area? I've ridden horseback in there, and have only been up non-trail washes and hills, and those parts are pretty rough. I might be up for a bike-ride there, depending on weather. I and my Funduro are not so good at sandwashes, but I'm trying to work on my trailwork.

I am not sure about maps. I know that the Book Store in Los Alamos has topo maps of most of Northern New Mexico. I doubt if there are any trail maps. I had an F650 up in that area before. There are some drouble tracks that will work with that bike. I did not have much luck riding mine in the sand washes or on the single track.

BE VERY CAREFUL WHAT YOU ASK FOR!

Dave loves to lead rides, but make him ride the 640, then it should be ok for the rest of us.

Maybe I should stick a potato in his exhaust pipe. That should slow him down some
