Threat. Promise. Stalking or whatever. Put on such a great rally and they will just have to get over it.

Sorry to hear of your mishap John. I hope you heal up fast.

As Jim mentioned, we made it home fine and managed to miss most of the rain storms along the way. 3,350km for the trip.
Had a great time.

John was last heard stating..

"I knew i DID WRONG WHEN i LOOKED DOWN!"

As it turned out, he was crossing a Bailly bridge, with two wooden planks.
Can't say everyone has done one of those, but looking down is bad. !!!
Anyway, he's fine for now, update later.
Cheers, !

I'm sorry to hear of Oldrookie's crash. Mend quickly John and get back in the saddle.
And Feliz: best of luck with your recovery too!

To Dan, Greta, Scott & Nancy--- thanks so much for your hospitality and your hard work. It was an honor to be invited and a pleasure to attend the 2012 NOFAR. (When I told my wife about the food she said she's going to get her motorcycle license and her own bike so she can attend next year.)

To everyone I met at Lonely Lake--- it was great to put faces to names and pick your brains regarding dual sport bikes that are less than 30 years old. I learned a lot about what I want in my next motorcycle. And if I'm lucky enough to do the NOFAR/ICE BREAKER next year I'll be leaving the RV at home and promise to be aboard something that can join in all the fun.
I have a few photos to post and will get to that soon. (proof that the old DT did some touring on Sunday) Seems I haven't had much free time since returning. My Titan quit on the commute home tonight so I'm just in from the garage now. Had to enlist my son's help and his trailer etc. Apparently I should be checking/cleaning the petcock from time to time---still a bit of rust working it's way out of the tank...

ps-Happy travels Nancy & Scott

I bumpped this to the front of the que...

..I after a lot of discrete CSI-like sleuthing around I have determined that it is not off any KTM, BMW, or Triumph....
No harmful chemical analysis was done to determine this...
nor x-ray or MRI's...

.it says "made in Japan" on it....

Comes complete with the one mounting screw that held on to the bitter end....trying to do its best to preseve the integrity of the complete"as born at the factory" ..machine.
This valliant screw deseves to be reunited with the mothership and be installed in its rightful place of honor...
..'cause the other screw f**ked off somewhere....

... I had another coffee...thinking clearly now, I googled the part #...its off a 1984 Kawasaki ZX900-A1 Ninja...

...so now I'm thinking........"Has anyone farkled their KLR with a Ninja cover??"

....or did a 900 Ninja sneak in stealthily....under cover of darkness...while everyone was totaly saited with food and beverage and fast asleep???
....'cause that what real Ninja's do....

...upon proofreading this...I think I need to get more sleep....more coffee...or get my head read....perhaps all three.

Bottom line....is anyone missing a taillite cover of a KLR or Versys ?

The Gory Details

G'Day Folks,
To Greta, Nancy, Dan and Scott; my heartfelt thanks for a great weekend. I had a great time, met some really great folks and learned a lot - OK not quite enough...

Left Isplat's camp on Monday morning and arrived at the French River in good order during the afternoon. Another fun ride.

Departed Tuesday morning eastbound on Hwy 522, with GPS guiding me. Left turn onto Hwy 524 in good order. A sign alerted me to a Bailey bridge ahed, so I slowed down and as I approached, I could see a hard left immediately after the bridge. As I got to the bridge, I realized that the deck was wood - I'd been expecting steel - and that it was wet. Even better, the bridge deck had two runners nailed onto it to make tire tracks. I picked the left-hand runner and proceeded onto the bridge.

I looked down.

I put the front wheel into the depression between the runners and couldn't recover.

Some very nice people called the ambulance and some very nice other people took care of the bike. I'm at home now with a broken right clavicle and a broken right foot.

Feliz, we didn't get to ride together, but we can heal together

I'll be back in the saddle later this summer.

Thank you all for your kind words.

John
P.S. Lessons learned: 1) don't ride when less than rested and alert, 2) don't look down

Great ride report and pictures guys! I never did read what actually happened to Feliz. Fast recovery to you.- Rob, I bet you never had starting problems when you owned a KLR!!!- Just want to put a plug in for my friend JWalters who is having a similar rally in Little Marais, MN(just a short 2 hours south of Thunder Bay) in July.(minnesota north shore shindig). 17 acres of scenic camping available. Lots of food and beer and I promise I know of no bailey bridges south of our shared border.

Calan818, your wish has come true... 8 hours of rain riding, Jack and Wild Rice Soup, all over again

Last year I pulled a stone out of my rear tire on the way back from the EAOR...this year something different.

Hey ya "OLD Rookie" I need to confirm or figure out what you broke.

Now we all know North Rider broke his Spatula....

Was it tis one ?

or this one ?

In any event, I hope you mend fast. I did a similar crash in 2007... Those "Fing" wood deck bridges will get you every time.

Ok Ok....I confess!

The licence plate light cover is from my KLR. I guess the vib's were just too much for the bolts to handle. I wouldn't have even known it was missing as the light is tucked up under the fender.

I mentioned to Gretta it could be brought with you in July.

Thanks for the find and good CSI work. Now I know my bike is part Ninja. Cool!

Now to go over the rest of the bike and see what else fell off.
