Looks like it was at a ski area. We do a race at Hill City, MN at a ski area. Really cool area to ride, the hills are crazy there

Here's what I was up to last weekend. Well; actually it was the weekend before. And...well...it wasn't nearly as exciting as Finndian's weekend. But just the same; I wrote a short trip report and it's in "Day trippin" if anyone is interested. I called it "Chapleau and back"
Hope you're all doing well and getting some riding in.

Well...we kinda took the hard way into the Aldina fire Tower. First time I've been there in nearly 50 years, I believe it's the one my family lived at for a summer back then. I'll know better when we go back into it from the Boreal Road side.

I'm intrigued by the road that goes south from Shabaqua Corner, then I believe heads east to Kek. Falls, maybe that's the Boreal Road... I don't have any good maps or gps information. Not sure what is "good". Bing Maps maybe?? I'd chase along if anyone's going.

Someone at the store at Shabaqua Corner told me that road was "tough" for quads...

Mike, I think your talking about the Matawin River road. Starts across from the Shabaqua store and heads down across to Boreal road or you can cut off towards Kakabeka on the Adrian lake road. It's a real nice ride, not tough at all. Don't see many people down it, except hunting season. when you hit Boreal you can go west and head all the way to Quetico or down near Saganaga lake, or cut off onto Marks lake road and cut across past Tower Mtn and end up on hwy 588 near Gravel Lakes (we past that on our Gunflint ride). Endless possibilities Too bad you can't cross the Border at Gunflint or I would be able to pretty much stay on gravel roads from my house to Duluth

Can't count the number of times I travelled the Matawin River Road going back to the tracks back in the 70's. The road must be pretty rough now as up keep was limited then.

There is part of a dam on the Shebandowon River near Maybella that was used to hold back water for the railway's water tower. There is a huge grade on the tracks at Annex. Not sure what if anything is left there now.

Now that I have a KLX, I should drag it down to Thunder Bay trip and go back to some of those old places.

Has anyone been exploring the Kinghorn Sub? The line from Thunder Bay to Long Lac?

Hey BackRoader, hope your Montana trip was good! Can't say that I've ever gone down Maybella road, have to check it out. I don't know how far they are on the Kinghorn for tearing up ties. Should be near Nipigon my now. Won't be long before they close it to motorized traffic, so hopefully I will check it out this fall.

You been out on that KLX yet?

Another two weeks and I can ride the bike again. Can't risk getting whacked in the eye balls right now.

Too late for the Kinghorn line, they already have it posted all around Nipigon and Red Rock. Something about the CN police shooting trespassers on sight.

Must be something new on Internet, maybe out of his home or something. Never new it existed. Maybe someone else has had dealings or knows them?

My wife and I were in North Bay today when we ran into SherpaGuy. We've been holed up in South River for the last four days, doing back roads, trails, rail lines, whatever and having a wonderful time on our DRs. What a great place to ride!

I think Backroader is referring to Steak in Ely. The dates may be a problem for me. Will talk Sunday at Pony Corral show and shine.
