I finally got around to checking it out today.

the snow covered main road, lotsa snow where the sun don't shine...!

The east entrance road.

it was good until I hit the barricade. This is looking back after I crossed over it. Almost dumped it when I stalled out.

all that remains of the headframe......totally levelled

one old garage left.....

sure looks bare now....

Beaverpond froze right over....

I went out the west exit & found the road was good.

Bernhards water hole totally dry.....

Unters never got this one. It was great to get out riding 1 more time......

Was that a new rear when you started this ride?
Cheers!
Dunlop 606 was bought here in Moab in June 2012. Two days of Moab, week and a half of Colorado Rockies, a summer of backroads in Ontario and 6 days back here in Moab worth of wear on it...I think it held up pretty good

Moab Day 7...

Well today was another blustery winter day...sunshine, plus 69f and no wind

BackRoader, 2 whlrider and I started out this morning with no plan. Mark96 wanted to head off for some different riding south of here, so we headed north. We ended up running down Mill Canyon road and after a short ride we stopped for some photos at Tusher Tunnel. It was a pretty cool natural tunnel that went thru the rock for about 300 feet and came out on the other side of the rock opening up to totally different terrain. After there we decided to head to Gemini Bridges road and play around a bit. This was going to be an easy, see the scenery and play around kind of day, as we wind down our great riding in Moab. Shortly after hitting the highway again, BackRoader spotted a shelf road winding across the cliffs to our right. At the first road to the right we pulled in for a better look. It turned out to be Cotter Mine road. We worked our way in and up to the shelf road and found it was ATV width and was perfect for the bikes. Heading to the left, we stumbled upon some old mine shafts that were according to the GPS, Uranium mines. Riding the shelf road further we counted 3 such mines. After a few shots, we headed back across the shelf road and saw that we had passed a few more partially filled mines. As we headed down I spotted a small shack and turned around to investigate. It was the entrance to yet another mine and a bit further along was a collapsed Mining shack alongside a couple more mine entrances that contained grey/purple/yellow rock...very cool stuff. We headed up Cotter Road further and saw a sign for 7 Mile Rim trail. It began with a rocky climb, followed by some slickrock and ledges that led up to a lookout overlooking the mining area we had just visited. We decided to head down from there.

After that we headed for Gemini Bridges road and began explorring small roads off the main road that we had passed previously on our earlier journey. There was some great scenery to be had. We stopped for lunch and possed for some photos. As we headed out back to the hotel, I stumbled onto a neat little rock climb at the foot of the Gooney Bird. I thought I'd just do a little ride up on the edge...it ended up being another photo opt

Rock Climbing in Moab...KTM style!

All in all, it was a great day, maybe one of the funnest days of the trip so far...and we only covered just over 100kms. Tomorrow will be our last day here...just as well anyway, as winter is really forecasted for next weekend with temps dropping into the mid 50f's.

End to another great day in Moab

Lappeman,

Thank you so much for the diligence you have shown in keeping us all posted - your ride report and accompanying photos have been thoroughly enjoyed by a great many folks, I am sure...

Although there have been some absolutely stunning scenery shots, I think this photo below is my favorite - Backroader and 2whlrider look as if they have seen, and perhaps been abducted by, aliens they met in the tunnel behind them. Lord knows, we of the Winnipeg and Surrounding Area forum haven't heard from the dynamic duo for a couple of days now...

Greg and I made it through the tunnel unscathed even though we seem to have stunned looks on our faces. The tunnel was one of the highlights of the day.
I plan on posting some of my favorite photos when we get back to the Peg. I'm not able to post photos at the moment.
It's been a fantastic trip.

Hey Mike, you won't be the only one going thru withdrawls. I didn't go out today and went into town to wash the bike and gassed the truck. Ready to head back to the wintery hell tomorrow.

Wow, great ride report!

I've been invited to Moab in March '13 and originally declined (I don't have that much time off to 'blow it all' on one trip) but now you've got me reconsidering my decision.
