Its a beater. Its great to save miles on the 950 and prolong it's life.
Anxious to put the sidecar on. It'll have to wait for spring.

thanks for the update Gord.

The Uno Grande 1000 GSA represented much the same thing, a super cheap initial buy, rock solid reliability and power, and no worries over wearing out my other bikes prematurely. This one can bear the brunt of the usual riding. I really like the bike, and when it fell ill a while back I thought it was done, but it came back to life for more....I have almost extracted the value out of my initial investment.....

The good old GS. This picture isnt that old. Checkout the price of fuel.

The reason it was blowing fuses like crazy was hard to figure out. One day I had the tank off and was trying to sort it out. I noticed it would start and run great, but when I put it all back together and tried riding it, it would pop a fuse. Then one time, as I had the key"on" and hooked up the wires for the fuel gauage sending unit, the fuse popped right then and there. Since I no longer have the fuel gauge wires connected its been problem free. Its a great bike........

Monday cloudy day ride. Well above freezing, I wanted to run the Taco bike a bit so I can dump the oil and install the stainless steel reusable oil filter. Also new x-ring chain and sprockets, as well as new front brake pads.

It was real messy and highly dangerous. Traction is better when its frozen. It was nice to hear the little 250 motor.

Snow Loss...

Hey Hekto, how much snow did you guys loose up there with that warm raining spell? We went from 8" down to maybe 2" now hard as rock and some bare spots. Wonder if the lakes had to start over with the ice making, never checked them.

Now with the snow loss, I can't even ride the sled anymore...winter or summer, make up your mind

its almost all gone now. The snow on the lakes melted too, and should be frozen good now with the cold temps last night.

This was the lake the day I went out(monday)

Thanks Hekto! Looks like the lakes will benefit from this melt and then cold again.

10-four.....we were sweating at 100'F down in the lower elevations of Wyoming. It was a real treat to ride the pavement through the snow covered areas. I was amazed at the amount of snow, they had just declared Hwy 212 open for the season the week or so before....

Last ride of 2012?

Had the DR650 out for an 83 km ride today, probably the last one of the year. Put it up on the lift & removed wheels, chain and sprockets, getting ready for 2013. May change the wheel bearings too - they feel fine but are originals with almost 85,000 on them. Sprocket carrier bearing was relpaced for the first time at 82K. I've been trying to wear this bike out so I can start riding my '09 DR, but it won't cooperate!

I thought you let your bike cool off breifly through the Xmas holidays, then resume riding again after new years day?

Ron told me about the ether hole in the airbox mod.....

Good on you for getting out riding. My KLR hit 85 000 as well and is a long ways from being done. I also have its successor lined up in the stall, waiting to replace it.......(another KLR)

Hi folks cross posting this to both the Winnipeg and Northern Riders pages. PM me if interested rather than answering this page

I ordered a poster and it came but it seems that we want to get the stretched canvas instead.

It is Rodney White's "Life needs more green lights" in portrait (see picture below). This is a premium quality poster 50x102 cm (approx 20"x40") on heavy bond paper. It lists for $54 and I paid $60 including shipping etc but would sell it for $50 if anyone is interested. I can return it but the shipping is at least $15.

Here is the search URL for it http://www.allposters.ca/gallery.asp...E5B6395B4A44E9

I would bring it up to Winnipeg or Thunder Bay one day in the next couple weeks as I have another trip there that has to be done before Christmas. My loss your gain.

I was aware of the reduced prices on KLR at Kawasaki Canada website. This previously mentioned dealer has his price lower than the 2012 at Kawasaki Canada by 3 hunnerd bucks. Here is the other link:
http://www.kawasaki.ca/model/DUAL-PURPOSE/1267/KLR650

you can click on the year (top left) to get the sale price.

When you say orange, maybe you mean Candy Burnt Orange....heheh. Or maybe koolaid needs to have more tangerine flavour to it

I think the KLR looks better in "burnt black" but I also preffer the look of the pre 08' models...more off-road look to them. Maybe someone will make a replacement front console for the newer models that looks more off-road...someone, anyone Also needs more power straight out of the box without the 685/705 upgrades. I think Kawasaki could put more power into it without raising the price very much...maybe they're too lazy since it's a pretty popular bike...not very popular when your fully loaded and trying to pass a transport
