Rob once you get up to the Savant Lake area on the way to Pickle Lake there is 3-4 feet of snow on the ground.
It actually looks like how winter should be.

Wednesday or Thursday...

Is there anyone out there that has a sled and might want to do a stupid andventure ride with me either Wed or Thurs this week? Thinking of going to a Fire Tower and it requires each way of about 7 miles of crossing lakes and about 3 miles of roads and maybe half mile of walking...unless the sleds will reach it up a steep hill. Have to truck the sleds to the staging area that I have in mind. All day adventure...I won't go unless I get someone to go with me...don't want to die alone

Thurs looks like the warmer of the two days. Also depends on if the furnace guy shows up here tomorrow like he's supposed to and can do the work in one day. Just throwing this out there...

Hi Rob - I don't own a sled. However, I am interested in the tower you are thinking about visiting - which one is it?

I bet that'd make for a particularly bizarre and entertaining trip report.

Yes, it would be entertaining to say the least...

We used to run knee boards on the frozen lakes behind quads back in the 80's...wish I had taken video of it! Now's our chance to document you being towed across lakes, thru portages and down roads

I assume then that the tower was located on the hill toward the bottom middle section of the map below. Where the spot height reads 555m - right?

Yes...I tramped around the Cyprus Hills in Saskatchewan in a lightning storm to find the highest point in Sask. The difference was only a foot in half a mile

Would like to do the Ontario high point this year if possible...any takers

I'm in. I was just looking up the route again on Google Earth and just read Greg Slayden's trip from 2011 about 5 minutes ago. I would also like to again climb the Fraleck Lake hill along the Portelance Road too. I grew up near Sudbury, ON and climbed Fraleck a few times. In the late 80's there was even a helicopter landing pad on the top. Al Raine (Nancy Green's husband) was hired and flown by helicopter to view the site as a great potential centerpiece for a new ski resort at the time. Offering a little over 700 feet of vertical - it would have been an impressive hill. He was quite enthusiastic about the potential and apparently encouraged development of the site. I remember even reading in the local paper that ground breaking was about to begin. Then nothing.

Here is what the hill looks like.

Hey Nanabijou, here's a shot of when we climbed Eagle Mountain up BS...1000' prominence and bonus falls where the creek disappears into the ground further down. Pretty Cool!

Ishpatina....

We'll have to get together late spring sometime and see if we can put together an attempt at the high point. I have truck and 4 wheeler...that will get us across the rivers and to the bushwhacking trail.

Been wanting to do it for a long time...have to see what this year brings when I'm back to work. Would be nice to get a dry spring...ya like that's gonna happen

Still trying to work out how I'm going to fit, work, trips and biking all in this year Lotto
